tire recommendations?

my car just failed inspection...eek! I apparently need 4 new tires. anyone want to recommend a particular brand/place to get them? the guy quoted me for the ones currently on the car (toyo) but honestly I am not that impressed with the wear we got on them, and a couple of other people I talked to said some negative things about the brand, too.

its for a 2008 toyota highlander sport if that makes a difference.

I personally have been happy with discount tire. They tell me this is what we have for your car here are prices which would you like. no pressure no crap and treating me like i'm a dumb blonde (which i'm not blonde)

I agree about going to Discount Tire. They are super nice and tell you exactly all the tires they have for your vehicle and the prices and let you pick what you want. Always have had good experiences with them!

Have you searched online for Michelin tires? I would try Costco and Sams plus any other tire centers for a price comparison.

This happened to me this past May. I went to Consumer Reports and picked out Good Year Triple Treads for my Jeep, of course they were hard to find because of the size... special order and all that. Then I started to shop around, called EVERYONE within 20 miles.. you would NOT believe the markup for dopey stuff like disposal fees, mounting fees, balancing fees & the whole bit. Big Surprise, I found that ordering on-line with Walmart would save me hundreds. I bought the tires on-line and they shipped them to my local store ( I don't think there was a fee) where they were installed at a super low price. $10 each additional tire bought me lifetime coverage against holes etc. Worth every dime and the tires handle like a dream... I think they had a rebate at the time.

Here is what the on-line receipt read:

The extra $40 for care went on at the end, you have to ask for it. I happened to drive over a nail 1 month after buying the tires and it was repaired free...thank goodness. Also, if you buy the lifetime tire rotating package you can get them moved as you shop for free whenever you want.... I think that one is $7.50 per tire..

PS, I just looked and for the 235/65R17 I needed, they now seem to call it Goodyear Assurance TripleTread. They still ship to the nearest Tire and Lube Express free and mounting is free if you buy the tires from Walmart.

when DW's suv neede tires, went there and got the right stuff and a very good price.

I like the idea that you can go anywhere and their stores will honor your warranty. nice to know when traveling.

The past few years I've been buying my tires online at Tirerack.com. My local garage then mounts and balances them for me. Put in the size you want and then read the ratings.

My husband is in the automotive business and says for the money, the best tire you can buy is a Kumho. He actually just put them on my mom's Chevy Malibu. Good luck!

We recently replaced all 4 tires on my Durango with Nokian Vatiiva tires. So far they're great. About $800 and got them at a Bruneel Tire but think you can get them ordered in anywhere. http://www.nokiantires.com/

It turns out we apparently have an odd size tire, and have been told that only bridgestone and toyo make a tire that fits. at least that is what I have been finding calling around. not really sure the difference between the two except that toyo is slightly more expensive. any opinions?

very hard to find a deal, though, since the size is oddball.

What size are your tires? Plus I agree with other posters. Discount Tire is one of the best. I got my tires from them and so far, so good. They can even special order, or have shipped from another store at no cost to you. If I remember correctly.

wow the things I am learning. reading edmunds message boards now and bridgestone does not get favorable reviews at all. toyo is fairing better. the general consensus is that the size is a pain in the you-know-what.

we don't have discount tire, but do have town fair tire. they said they would beat any price and gave me a decent one, so I'm going to see if I can find a better deal for them to beat and then get it done.

I got 4 Goodyear tires at Town Fair a few months ago and they were the cheapest. Brought them is a quote from Sam's club and they beat it. They also do free rotation for life which is the real key for long tire life. Plus they do free front end alignment. It was still over $800 but not bad for a truck.
