No I don't. I'm a server myself, so I treat all servers the same. If you give great service then I tip WAY above the norm...well above 25%! If you give good service, I tip my norm which is about 18-20%. If you give average service then I tip about 10%. If you suck, then you get nothing! I haven't done that very often though. Only about 5 times that I can count in the years I've been waiting tables and that's well over 15 years. :faint:

Just out of curiosity, what would a server have to do to earn a 50% tip?

I always tip depending on the level of service but I do take certain situations under consideration. If service is slow due to understaffing and the server is polite I dont hold that against them

I have left 50% or more tips on several different occasions, but not at WDW. To get a huge tip from me, it's actually very simple- remember what I ask for and the substitutions, smile, check on me, refill my drinks before I'm out no matter how busy you are, etc. I always ask for things with substitutions and on the side, so my server is rewarded for doing those things right since so many get them wrong.

I have offered those same servers jobs in my company as well.

I didn't find anyone at WDW really went out of their way that I would've tipped more than my normal 20% unfortunately.

Do you tip the same if it is a buffet?

The service at buffets is different than what's required at a full service restaurant. I usually tip about $5 and go up or down from there. The biggest I've left was $9, had two friends and their 4 children with DH and I, the server had a big mess to clean at the table. The smallest I've left was $2...at a chinese buffet because the server was hardly ever there and just didn't seem to care much.

I went out to eat at a local diner here in our area and had breakfast. My check total was about $7 and some change, I left my server $5! :teeth: She was very busy had about 6 tables and gave each one equal service...GREAT service! So there you see that tip was well over 50%....it's not hard to do really if you're good at what you do and your customer appreciates that.

Having worked in the restaurants while in school, I do the same as Tiggerlover91 and depends on the level of service.

With that said we have left nice tips for some restaurants, like Bistro De-Paris or Flying Fish, never had a bad services there.

I tip 20% and up at full service places, and generally 20% at buffets, unless the server is pretty much not around, then it goes down from there. I tip bartenders 10-20%, never less than $1 per drink. A lot depends on what they have to mix/pour, if they can give advice on wine, and how personable they are.

I've only stiffed one server at WDW, the guy we had in Mexico. Our meal should have been free the food and service was so bad. I have left only 5-10% to a couple of others, because they obviously didn't care to put forth any effort to give good service. I overheard one saying very nasty things about another table. That's fine, say what you want, but not where other guests can hear. I wondered what she was saying about us as well, put a damper on the meal...and her tip reflected that.

usually we leave 20% disney or not, more if we split a meal unless we get dessert ect and the bill is larger, just to make up for the low tab. when we used vouchers we always added enough to make at least 20%, usually just left an additional $5 which was more than 20%

just a thought about pepper market, according to the cm cashing out( not a waiter), the service charge does NOT all go to the server and they only get about 4% of it so definitly leave more there.

buffets we tipped more according to service.. a lousy waiter who basically ignored us, no refilled drinks ect got less thatn 20%. very attentive or "normal" service got 20%
