however I don't like honey
Can't drink hot beverages
And can't gargle salty water

So they appear to be the main 3 out:rolleyes1

Any suggestions I can actually work with would be much appreciated.

I have been dealing with a persistent cough for a couple of years. The best medical solution after trying everything (including sinus surgery and every possible antihistamine) is a corticosteroid. I got tremendous relief after a steroid injection but my doctor did not want to do that again because of side effects. I am now using an inhaler to get the steroids directly to my throat and that helps.

For those night time coughs I sleep with my head elevated. I find it also helps to take an antacid. Indigestion can sneak up on you and make an already irritated throat even more scratchy.

It's a dry cough
Although a do have a runny nose and a sore throat
It's kind of constant day and night
Not particularly worse at night
However being slightly elevated does help but does not alleviate
I have a bottle of water with me everywhere-even in bed & the bathroom

My aunty had a persistent cough however bless her she was poorly
It was the only outward sign-she was wonderfully chipper otherwise.

it certainly sounds like your doctor has tried all kinds of possibilities for you-it's a shame about the steroid injections-
I had a similar experience once with medication-I gained a tremendous amount of weight however I felt so much better-but clearly my body and my internal organs would not be in agreement a few months/years down the line..

That's most useful regarding the antacid-I shall certainly take that on board. Thankyou.

This time of year, pollen counts are very high and there can be symptoms like you describe. Many people take an antihistamine like Zyrtec and/or an inhaler daily. My DD had this happen in FL recently she was seen and they had her get some saline nasal spray and flonase (OTC now) and use it twice a day. Some people use a Neti Pot in the shower to clean nasal passages and sinuses. Are your windows open? Change your pillowcase daily as hair carries a lot of pollen into your bed and then you breathe it in all night. You could also wash your hair at night before sleep. There are other things that can cause a cough so if these things don't help, you should move on to the next step. Good luck.

Shot of Rum, a bit of honey and fresh lemon juice. Take that shot. Works like a charm. Even stops me from sneezing. This is my MIL's remedy.

Any fever? The only memorable time I had a persistent dry cough, I went to the doctor after about a week and they took x-rays and determined I had pneumonia. Definitely something you'd want to get medication for if that's possible.

DH just got over a persistent cough. His was just bronchitis, but his doctor recommended a humidifier at night and to use saline nasal spray throughout the day. Keeping his airways moist helped to combat it. He also took Mucinex - the expectorant one, not the suppressant. He used cough drops frequently. He took a sleep aid at night to knock him out. Finally after about 4 weeks, I'd say it's completely gone now. Good luck!

Put Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of your feet and then put socks on - works like a charm to stop coughing.

Good luck and feel better :-)

It's probably allergies, use Zertic or Claridtin. it helps me with the nasal drip.

The sore throat and runny nose points to postnasal drip. Try a sinus rinse. I like the NeilMed squirt bottle.

Also, try an OTC allergy nasal spray like Flonase.
