TIPS: Star Wars Weekends 2011

hello.
our 1st sww will be 6/12. we will be going with 4 children (ages 7 & 6). they really want to try to do the jedi training so this will be my first stop after rope drop.

they also want to ride star tours and tsm.
i was reading all the recent posts and it seems that everyone is going to star tours first rather than tsm.

after signing up the kids for jedi training (positive thinking), do you think we should first get a fast pass for star tours and just go to tsm stand by or should we get fast pass for tsm and get in line for star tours?

thanks :cutie:

I was able to "forfeit" my wristband to my son without any problems. I did have to physically take off the band and give it to him to hold in line.

We went to try and "standby" Dave Filoni, but he takes a lot of time and I'm not sure he made it through the actual fast pass holders. We gave up - the CM's mentioned fp holders having to come back. We attempted to pass on our bands and stand by passes to another gentleman, but the CM would not let us - which is just stupid.

DS7 got to meet Daniel Logan (young Boba Fett) and ds7 was over the moon! All I can say is that Logan was the nicest guy and just awesome with the guests!!! Such a nice guy!

We made it through all of the Jedi Masters without any trouble and saw a Jawa. I did not see as many roaming characters, but we were pretty specific in our attempts.

Tomorrow's plan is to take the whole family and get a pass or Dave Filoni and one of the others. We're hoping to be done by lunch time. The heat was pretty brutal.

We were there at park opening and went right to ride ST while DH went to get FPs for TSM (he won't do ST due to motion sickness). Then when our FP window opened up for TSM 45 min after park opening, we got a ST FP which was for 1pm by then. So we did ST twice and TSM once (while DH did TSM twice). We did JTA on another day of our trip, though. Didn't want to chance missing it. I spoke to a woman today who said they arrived 1hr after park opening and there were no JTA spots left for the day. Luckily they're here for another 4 days and will return to do it.:)

My family went to SWW both Friday and Saturday. We don't "do" celeb autographs but i can tell you a lot of other stuff! If you are not "into" Star Wars then don't be afraid of going early in the morning. we had the best time EVER the past 2 mornings with no waits for anything!!!!

On Friday we walked there from the Yacht Club just after 6am and arrived just before they opened the turnstiles about 6:20. The Stormtroopers were on the roof making deals to open the park "if no one told".

Then we were held at the rope until 7am. They let all people going to Star Tours to head that way earlier than that. At 7am they led people waiting for the ceremony forward and all TSM people by Brown Derby. Once we separated the CMs realized that besides my family of 5, there was one man and his son!!!! They were so relaxed and happy. I already knew how stressful the run to TSM is (both my son and myself lost shoes on Wednesday!) but now i realize just how stressful it is for the CMs. They were joking around so much pretending to hold us back! they outnumbered the riders.

They let us enter in the fast pass line due to no people. We rode 2 times and then walked over to TOT. When we walked up the cm got really excited and said "riders number 6,7,8,9 and 10!" We had to baby swap, so i ran up with 2 of my kids and we ran all the way to the library. they started the show for us and then we entered the totally empty boiler room. we walked right onto our very own elevator and it closed right away.

Then my husband went on and there were 2 other groups by that time in his elevator. So crowded! Not!

Then we went to RNR and I went on again with 2 kids and there was no line and we went right on in the first row.

It was now 8am so we went behind Jabba's hut to try and see Luke & Leia. Everone was confused about what was happening. Finally, at 8:40 someone said that characters would show up at 8:55. Two minutes later
C3PO showed up! After we saw him we were told no more characters until after the ceremony.

So we tried to get snacks at the bakery but it was so crazy. There were ropes everywhere and it was really hard with a stroller. So we tried the other bakery near Muppets but we had to walk by TSM because the front was all roped off. It was crazy. We got a snack and then headed back towards the front via TSM.

It took forever but we finally made it to the front and found a spot to watch the opening ceremony behind a treed area. It was just before the stores started where you turn one way for Prime Time and the other for american idol. I am only 5 feet tall so a treed area was a better option than behind the masses. I can only see over kids not adults!

it was really hot but finally the ceremony started and we saw George Lucas! Sort of. It looks way better on our zoomed pictures than what we saw.

We could also see the parade coming up the street across the grassy area. It was the best we could expect without waiting there since 7am!

We ate at Primetime after, and by 11:45 the wait for ST was 160 minutes! i'm not sure if it had started yet or not. We used up our 3 sets of TSM fast passes (so easy to get them) and then my 2 oldest kids saw Jango Fett.
It was too hot and my 3 year old was done, so we left.

We went back this morning in hopes of the park opening at 7am again. We were a bit later and as we wlaked up right at 7 we heard the opening song thing so we just walked right in. We went right to TSM and the cms said that about 10 people beat us there! We walked right on throught the fast pass line, and after the ride stopped the CMs asked if we wanted to go again without getting off! So we did!

Then we headed over to ST and my hubby went on with 2 kids and i waited with a baby swap. Their wait was only 5 minutes. I went on with the 2 kids right after they got off and walked right up to where they tell you where to go. They sent us to the first row of one simulator and we rode right away.

Then we went back to ST to use our fast pass but the wait was only 5 minutes so we went through standby.

Then it was 8:30 and we started to figure out characters. We had been told that all of the "good guys" were not coming out until 9:30 so we started with Darth Vader. The line was already pretty long. At 9 my hubby went to wait in line for Anakin while i stayed with the kids. Darth Vader came out at 9 but went in at 9:19 for about 8 minutes. So i sent the 2 oldest kids to Anakin while i stayed in line.

At about 9:39 i was next in line and my family finally showed up after seeing Anakin! My 3 year old nearly got a solo visit with Darth Vader.

Then my 3 year old had a quick nap while my hubby took the other 2 to see Padme, who was due out at 9:55. When they got back we went on TSM with our fast passes, then we ate lunch.

After eating we went back to Jabba's hut to see Luke & Leia. We waited about 15 minutes but got to see both.
Once again, it was so hot and my 3 year old was done again, so we took the boat to EPCOT. As we left the parade was on but i could not see anything at all!!!!! People had started waiting before we even ate lunch at 11. The parade was 12:45.

My best tips are get there by 7 and "rule the park" until just before the characters come out at 9.
Ask the people with the ear things when the character you want is coming out. People in the yellow shirts do not know. Some have no idea who the characters are! i had to explain who Anakin and Padme were.
Also, use the map to figure out where characters are. The "yellow shirts" do not know other than who is at their location. No one knew where Anakin was, and we kept being told Padme was with Luke and leia. Fortunately we knew better. There are also really good signs pointing in the right directions for each character.

It is really hot and humid, and by the afternoon kids are spent! Adults too! So sweaty. Try and do "sunny" characters early and "shaded" characters later. Jabba's hut is covered and slightly air conditioned but still muggy. Darth Vader is also shaded. Most others are out in the sun.

We will be back again tomorrow before 7 hoping for yet another amazing morning of having most of the park to ourselves. Don't all show up and spoil it for us!

Where are anakin and padme? Haven't seen them...

How did all of you that went this weekend find out about the 7 a.m. opening time? All the calendars I've checked (including the Disney website) show an 8 a.m. opening.

We have close friends going to SWW for the first time next weekend. Right now, all the calendars show a 9 a.m. opening time. Do you think they might open earlier next weekend due to heavy crowds (Memorial Day weekend), or was HS opened earlier just for the opening weekend?

Thanks to all that have posted their reviews and pics!

Only @ HS last 3hrs, so night scoop, most ppl left at 10pm or were going to fantastic, best time to ride rides. CM told me that they werent busy this morning, said a lot of ppl come in afternoons for star wars event shows and then at night to catch fantasmic, & a lot of ppl leave. It's very humid, bring hotel towel in to wipe off sweat, & fan (found one for dollar at Walmart in hardware section, w/ batteries) 2 tricks, 1 most ppl walk on road, best place to walk is through shops, most are connected, or close together, & have air conditioning (do this all the time, keep it a secret or it will get more crowded) it's generally very easy to walk through shops. 2, good secret spot during open ceremonies is actually behind the big hat, in the pin traders shop. It is right next to wear all the characters wait to go one stage & the CM at the store said it perfect spot for pictures & only a few ppl back there. Can't miss Pin Traders, it directly behind big hat & across Movie Ride.
Also, WDW buses aren't picking up guests until 7am, although CM are letting ppl in earlier for FP & the pre-show might be over. You might have to drive if you want to get there before 7am.
More tips tomorrow.
PS, I heard AD is signing SW items, "he'll sign whatever we tell him, we're paying him." -CM manager. So, we'll see -.-
More tommorrow. Working on video

This is probably a weird question but can I take a photo from outside the line of my daughter with her celeb? She will be there early to get a FP but her brother is autistic and would not tollerate the wristband at all. I do not care about celeb autographs at all and would hate to waste 2 fp just to get a picture of dd. If not, I hope someone will be nice and take her photo for her.

I asked Guest relations & he said if a CM is available to take your child's picture, they will, but it completely depends on what's going on. I hope someone is nice enough to help you out.

S I remember there was a lady in a wheelchair with a fast pass but they wouldn't allow her in because she couldn't wheel herself to the podium, so her friend/spouse had to be the one to get the autograph. She was so upset and disappointed; she really wanted to be the one to meet the celebrity and I think her friend may not even be a fan.

That is horrible. I can't believe that happened. Honestly, my experience is that I think the cm's would try to do *something* (e.g., push her up themselves) in that situation. Our thing is, our son (7) doesn't really have the nerve to go up by himself, he gets stage fright. He just couldn't do it yet. He really wants to go up there, but he doesn't have the social skills/confidence/whatever to walk up to a celebrity and say hi yet. So he needs someone to go with him, so we planned on two fast passes.

You can stand outside the tent and take a picture of your child. You just can't go inside the tent.

I think our plan for touring right now is going to be DH head over to JTA sign up with DD while I run and get TSM FP's. Then we'll meet up by Star Tours to ride and get baby swap so we can switch off.

If you get a fast pass for autographs does it affect getting ride fast passes this year?

So we arrived at 7am. For fastpasses for autographs and then walked on to Star Tours 4 times. My husband is now in line for it again. It paid to get here early.

Day 2 report:
Got to DHS at 6:30am to get FP for Dave Filoni and Ashley Eckstein. As soon as we got there they started moving the line. The new procedure has it's pros and cons. Pro: people can't show up 30 minutes before they hand out the fp and jump in front of you with their families, as soon as you get into a line they put a wristband on you, cons: you can only get one Fp per celeb per day. So my daughter wanted Dave and Ashley, I talked to a CM coordinator and he said I could take the wristband off and give it to her.So we ended up having first session for Ashley second session for Dave. They move the line backstage thru the gate to the right before the tursntiles, they give you the FP and scan your ticket, and then let you inside for rope drop.Yesterday they opened the park at 7am, went straight to ST and was on the first ride, rode it again and decided to see how an empty park looks like, TSM, RnRC and ToT were ealk ons, went to Jabba's Tent, empty. Saw and did all this before 8:30am. Now I doubt that they will do the same thing with next weekends. I'm pretty sure they'll open at the regular scheduled time.
As I had feared they cut the parade route in half so it does only go to the Hat Stage, we went to find a spot 1hour and 15 minutes before and it was all packed so decided not to watch it. Maybe they'll realize this was a mistake and change it for next weekend.
Anthony Daniels is incredibly self centered and arrogant all while trying to act charming, my least favorite person of the SW celebrities.
The must see show this year in my opinion is James Arnold Taylor's Obi Wan and Beyond, it has very little to do with SW but it's incredibly entertaining and motivational, he is a great host and an awesome person.
The times for all shows and parades will stay the same for the remainder weekends.
Hoopla was great. Still packed but at least some air flows thru, the big stage helps alot. You should get a spot at least 45min. before.
Met Ashley and Dave, bith great people, Ashley remembered my daughter from last year and she was on cloud 9.
The characters are pretty much the same as last year, good news for kids going to JTA they alternate between Darth Vader/Darth Maul and Darth Vader/Assaj Ventress. They still give out a special SWW gift for kids doing JTA and Padawan Mind Challenge.
Now to take care of the house, the bills and recuperate for next weekend. MTFBWY

If you get a fast pass for autographs does it affect getting ride fast passes this year?

No, it's not connected.

For starters, all the CM's I encountered were incredibly helpful, calm, and orderly. They deserve so much credit for how they handled the crowds.

I think I'm the only one not bothered by the rule that Anthony Daniels will only have the black and white photo and nothing else to sign, but I'm not going to get into that because of what happened when I mentioned on another board I thought it was disgraceful that somebody spit on him(which probably explains his mood), so feel free to comment, but don't expect me to join in a debate, because at the end of the day, people just got really rude as opposed to proving a point.

I don't know if she's doing this everyday she's therer, but Ashley Eckstein was also doing a signing at Jabba's Hut for her merch. You buy a shirt, and she'll autograph the tag(originally she was signing the shirt, but she was worried it would wash off so she started signing the pricetag instead). Every talk I did was fantastic it was nice to see a crowd really enjoying themselves.

There was so much merch. They do AP discounts so be sure to ask for it!

Hope the rest who are going have a blast!

ooh I'm glad you mentioned they do AP discount. I didn't know that and we'll be getting one when we get there.
