Tips on staying off site?

I haven't ever stayed off site before, but we were gifted a week at the Sheraton Vistana, so we're going to go for it. Is there anything I should know about staying off site? Will I still enjoy the magic? TIA!

We stayed in a timeshare about 5 min from Disney Springs Thanksgiving week. Our first time not using DVC points. But we aren't big park people so we only went one day and went to three parks, starting in Animal Kingdom, then Hollywood and ending in Epcot. We had just done the Magic Kingdom at the Christmas party, staying at old key west for night. We paid for parking once at Animal Kingdom and then went to Hollywood...you can move from park to park and only pay once. After Hollywood we left car there and took boat to Epcot. I needed the walk aftr dinner and didn't care about the fireworks so I walked all the way back to Hollywood, got the car and met the rest of the family just outside the Boardwalk so I didn't have to go thru Epcot traffic. To see the Christmas decorations, we made reservations for brunch at Contemporary, parked our car and then did the monorail over to The Grand Floridian and the boat over to Wilderness Lodge. we had dinner at Disney springs a couple of times. Once parked there and another time parked at Saratoga springs...got in without any problem...and took the boat to Disney Springs. If we had wanted t do parks very day, Im not sure I would ever stay off site though. The parking cost Alone would be significant.

There's nothing wrong with staying off-site. My BIL has had Mariott points, so we have stayed at a couple of the Springhill Suites nearby. Those hotels have a free hot breakfast which greatly increases their value.
To save additional money, you now have the option of eating off-site.
