tips on lost kids

We just got back from our first trip to WDW. (had a great time :)
This is what we did. We got a pet tag (just a round one) that had our last name, our resort and our cell phone numbers. We also bought him a whistle on a necklace. we put the tag and whistle on the necklace. He wore it with no problem at all. (Plus, he liked to blow the whistle, but only when he asked.) He understood the the whistle was ONLY if he looked around and couldnt find us. He was to blow the whistle, if we didnt come in a few seconds he was to go into a store and find someone who was wearing a WDW tag. We pointed those out different places all through WDW so he would know. It worked great and luckily, we never had to put any of it in practice. Have a great trip.

we did the small round dog tag on a chain for our 3yr old ds (he's a runner). he loved it and in fact wore it for weeks afterward, until the chain (a cheap one i bought) broke last week. i just had his first name and our cell phone numbers on it.

We all know how girls like to make things and dress up-

I saw a little girl with a necklace on. It was those letter beads and it said "If I am lost call my daddy" and had his cell phone number on it in the beads. I told the parents what a great idea it was and they told me that they had used it as part of their "what to do if you are lost" lesson.

has anyone tried the child guard electronic monitor? I've seen them on the web from $15-40 - It is a watch/necklace type thing the kid wears & the parent has a remote looking thing. If the kid gets more than 30 ft away some sort of obnoxious alarm goes off.

I just posted a thread about this same thing. This is what I do:

I thought that I would share my idea, I love it and use it all the time.

I take my son to the Department of Motor Vehicles and get him a state ID. Which lists his picture, adescription, name address, blah, blah, blah......I think that I only paid $5 for it. When we go on vacation I tape to the back a piece of paper listing where we are staying (POR), both mine and my DH cell phone numbers (in case one is out of range - two different providers) and an emergency number of another relative. My dad lives in Fl so when we are at WDW I use his number even though he lives 2 1/2 hours away he will still be reachable if something were to happen. I then stick it in my childs pocket and explain to him what to do if he gets lost. When we get to the park I point out very obviously a cast member while pointing out their name tag.

Thankfully, we have never had a problem and hopefully never will, but at least we have the provisions set up to try and make the best of a bad situation.

***For those whose states may not so such things, you could always take a current photo of child put it in a photo sized laminate card with the info on the back and stick it together.

Hope this helps, it is always scary being in a strange place and getting lost.
