Hi,

My mum will be going to orlando at the end of june, begining of july when i know it will be very hot and very humid!
She wont be staying at a disney hotel so when she and her fiend goes to the parkks they wont really have the luxury of going back during the day.
They are not planning on going to the parks every day, so wont be out in the sun all the time.

I will be working at wdw in june, july and august so any tips for me to cope in the sun will be appreciated!!!

:rotfl2: :cool1: :thumbsup2

Biggest tip is to drink plenty of water (not drinks with caffiene or alcohol as both are diaretics).

Anywhere inside will be air conditioned, so to cool down go into shops, restaurants or rides/shows. If walking up Main Street in MK, walk through the shops rather than outside. That way you will be cool and avoid the crowds :)

Wear a hat :)

First of all, congratulations on your job! :thumbsup2
1.Please wear a high SPF sunscreen. Don't forget your ears and your feet if you are wearing sandals. :sunny:
2. Drink water, water, water. Not Coke, or coffee or beer. If you do drink other things, you still need the water. Dehydration and sunburn are the most common ailments seen by the nurses at First Aid. :drinking:
3. There is a wonderful product called a Cool Bandana that is sold at camping and sporting goods stores. Here in the US, it can be found at WalMart. It looks like a long strip of fabric, but when you soak it in cold water for 5 minutes, it swells up to become a gel filled band that you drape around your neck. It miraculously stays cool all day long in 95 degree heat and does a fantastic job of lowering the body temp. I could not tolerate WDW in the summer without one of these! :flower:
4. I have seen people walking around Epcot with parasols that they purchased at the China pavilion, so that they have shade wherever they go. Actually, I might just do that next time! :umbrella:

Other than those suggestions, just use common sense and have a fantastic time! :cool1:

your mom should be sure to be at the parks at opening and then leave in the middle of the day, when the heat is at its most intense...

and if you have pale complexions, be EXTREMELY careful of how much sun you get and always make sure you put on the sunscreen an hour before you go out....
my son is one of those very white people who only burn (never tan)...
if he doesn't have sunscreen on , he burns in the course of 5 minutes in the summer in orlando...
so be careful. that sun can be dangerous, especially if you have exceptionally pale, non-tanning skin.

I agree with the other responses, get to the parks early break for lunch and return (if needed) in the evening.

Wear loose comfortable clothing, drink plenty of water, try and take everything at a sensible pace, rest from the sun in the air-conditioned indoors as much as possible, wear shoes that are comfortable for walking.

If you are going to Universal make sure you ride Popeye's Barges at IOA , you will get soaking wet and it will help keep you cool.
Any water attractions at all the parks will be very popular in the summer.

Whilst in the parks you can purchase a large fan, which you can fill with water and spray whilst the fan is facing you, we used to have the CM doing it to us whilst we passed them.

They are called 'squeeze breeze' por simialr, and they are absolute lifesavers! They are about $4.99 in walmart, or $13 in the partks, byt part ones are slightly larger. They come with a strap so you can ut it over your shoulder and the batteries last ages.

I would def say get one of these!!

We also used the Cool Bandanas and they are great, they stay cool and refreshing for much longer than you would think and are easily refreshed in the water fountains or at a restroom.
The squeeze breeze fans are also great, add some ice for even more cooling effect.
You can ask for iced water from any beverage outlet in the parks, drink some and add the rest to your fan's bottle for instant cool.
We also used a product called Magicool, an aerosol which you spray around your head. It had a good cooling effect but you would need a lot of it in Florida.

I would also recommend Magicool - it isnt cheap and you go through quite a few of them but we found these much better than the squirty bottles with fans.

Thanks

I agree. We love Magicool and use it all the time. It is especially great if you spray it into the car before getting in after a day at one of the parks. It quickly cools it down (faster than the AC). It's fine on the skin as well.

DS also gets hot during the night, but we don't like the AC in the room being on too high. I bought some of those "Cool and Soothe" pads and he just puts one on his forehead and it keeps him cool through the night.

Hello

Would you buy Magicool at home or when we got there?

Thanks

Debbie

You can get Magicool in most chemists/Boots stores - so I would just buy it before you leave to save you hunting around for it when you arrive.
