Hi all! We're leaving for disney in just 11 days! We're driving from Louisville, KY. Our first night will be at ASmu then we move to GF for 9 more days! Does anyone have any tips about doing the commando drive? Any tips about what's the best route? We drove to New Orleans last year, which was a longer trip and we didn't think it was too bad. I'd love any advice though - it's about a 15 hour drive I hear. We love to drive and it doesn't scare me... but I'm a little worried about driving through Atlanta since we never have before. It's just me and my boyfriend, both 22 in a Nissan Pathfinder (our own).

Thanks in advance!

Are you coming down I75 or I85? Whatever you do DO NOT GET OFF ON 285--the "perimeter". It is almost always much quicker to drive straight thru the city (clearly marked highway) than to get on the "perimeter".

To make the time pass on long car drives, we like to listen to Jeff Foxworthy & Bill Engvall cd's. These guys are hysterical and laughing is a great way to make the time fly.

To save time: Gas, bathroom break, and pick up any snacks/drinks in ONE STOP. Travel plaza places like Flying J, Travel America are good for this.

I've not driven your route, but be sure to follow the normal safety tips. I know you want to get to your destination as soon as possible but stop every 1 1/2 to 2 hours for a few minutes. Get out and walk around the car, use restrooms etc. to avoid fatigue...it will sneek up on you. Take bottled water to avoid dehydration, even though you may have to stop more often. Comedy CDs or audio books are ways to pass the time. Personally , I like mystery or science fiction audio books. Have a good pair of dark glasses to avoid sunburning your eyes. Wear sunblock in the car, it seems like you're always stuck in a hot sunny position for hours. Have a newspaper or towel handy to cover your arms or lap from intense heat/sun. Take along a pack of antibacterial wipes or gel hand cleaner, some of the restrooms maybe a tad grungy. Do not let the driver use a cell phone behind the wheel, the problems escalate in unfamiliar territory. Use your best 'common sense', because the other guy probaly won't use his.
