We are taking DDs (1 and 5 by then) to the World in January. DD#2 is a very mellow girl but I'm trying to get some input as to what she might or might not enjoy. For example DD#1 LOVES pirates and we had to ride it 10+ times last September. Have you all ever seen a 1yo get freaked out by POTC (or HM, or Winnie the Pooh for that matter). I know every child is different, but since DD#1 was older when we first took her, I have no frame of reference.

So what did your 1yos like or dislike at the parks?

We took dd 1 yr6 and she went on most rides that she was tall enough for. I know she went on Hm, Pooh, Snow White and POTC and was fine. The only thing I remember her screaming in was It's Tough to Be a Bug in AK. It went completely black and my dh had to run out:scared1: My sister just returned and also said don't do the Honey I shrunk the Audience in Epcot. Too scary for little ones with snakes and things coming off of the screen. Her 8 year old ds was freaked out. Of course we already knew not to go on Dinosaur in AK. Mickey's toontown playground was her favorite and a nice break for us. We'll be going again next May with dd 41/2 and an almost 2 year old ds. So I plan on letting the little one play while dd goes off with daddy for a while just for the "bigger rides" like BTMR and anything else she may be brave enough to try!!!

Our boys liked most of the rides geared for a younger audience at 1 yr. We did not take them on any rides or shows that warned parents that it might be scary. We learned from my daughter not too push certain rides just because we wanted to go. For some unfathomable reason, we took her on the Alien Encounter and she screamed the whole time. She was miserable and we were ashamed of not considering what would be best for her. Again, each child is different. I don't think it would have fazed the boys, but I'm not taking the chance again. Maybe when they are older.

our ds was 13months first trip and he practically jumped out of my arms to get to pooh and friends. took him on everything(w/in reason), he pretty much fell asleep if something was a little too much for him. i had a sling w/me and he would sleep in there and we could still do things. we're going back in sept, he'll be 2.5 and he's much more timid now--we will really have to think about what will scare him this time even though our last trip(a 3d when he was 23mos) he cried at the end of haunted mansion because it was OVER! he has always loved and continues to love fountains and play areas.
i can't tell you what a lifesaver my sling was! it's such a pain when the child can't get in and out of the stroller on their own bc there's so much in and out esp in MK.

The sling is a good idea, thanks! I am thinking that DD will be okay on POTC and HM etc. because she will be too young to be phased by it. I don't think I would try anything where it gets suddenly dark, like Tough to be a Bug or Honey I shrunk the Kids. We might have to stay away from fireworks too...I don't know, anymore thoughts? :goodvibes
