Tips for staying awake during meetings??

There are only 4 of us for our weekly boring meetings. I tend to zone out and not pay attention when 2 of the staff just drone on and on and on.

I usually take notes, but I also doodle, it enables you to half listen if they ask for any input after they have made their decision. They just want my stamp of approval like it really matters anyway.

This is right up my alley as I plan a lot of meetings and attend a lot of meetings. First, lower your carb intake the day of the big meeting. Eat more protein. Refined carbs give you that sugar rush and then boom, a big ole drop, which is why many people start getting drowsy at about 2:00 p.m.

Meeting rooms with or without windows need to be set at the maximum of 70 degrees, no warmer. It's only natural to become drowsy in a warm stuffy room. The caffeine is great, but you'd actually need more than you usually have to keep you alert. If you are used to having that diet soda at that time of day, it won't be any noticeable difference. You have to punch it up with say something like Red Bull. If you can, right before your meeting, take a quick walk around the block for about 10 minutes. That will get you going for sure.

Getting your eight hours rest the night before is optimal, but as we all know, hardly anyone gets that full 8 hours every night.

Take notes.

I have this problem, too. My mind wanders so easily, even if the topic is relevant. The only thing that can keep me focused is taking notes.

I can't even take a notebook with me unless I have to - otherwise I start writing random stuff and really loose focus.
