Tips for Room Configuration

We are booked for the Explorer of the Seas on October 1. 8 total people, including my husband, kids, and grandson. We got 2 spacious balcony rooms with 4 in each room, but when I tested out to see the cost of these two rooms with 4 people in one, 2 in the other, and then added an inside stateroom with 2 people, the cost is the same as two staterooms! My question now is how do I change it? Would it be best to reach out to a travel agent or try to call RC? What are your tips?!

Out of curiosity, I called to see what RC would do about changing the room config. They said that one of our rooms (a spacious oceanview) MUST have 4 people in it. I can't only have 2 people in that stateroom. I'm confused. My parents booked a jr. suite for just the two of them and it's much bigger than our suites. I'm confused and think I should find a cruise travel agent.

A few years ago we booked a 2 bedroom suite with another couple, 4 people total. They said we had to have at least 5 people in it (the room slept 8 people). We booked the 5th person, paid the fare (just a few hundred dollars) and then cancelled the 5th person right before the cruise.

If you are only booking two in a room, when you book it will only give you options that have two beds. The spacious balconies you are looking at/booked in, have space for 4 so that is what can book those rooms. There is a chance closer to sailing they will open them to fewer people if they haven't sold yet. The room your parents have booked, only sleeps two, regardless of the size. Your best bet is to call, or you can use a travel agent if you prefer. They would know which cabins are set up how you would like. There may be spacious balconies with that only sleep two, just not the ones you booked, but I'm not super familiar with that class of ship. So if you want everyone close together, that's where it becomes trickier and either call or a travel agent can sort that out.
