Tips for resorts/pools that aren't infested by LOVE BUGS?

My parents are staying at AKV right now, and their experience is being marred to an extent by a bumper crop of love bugs. The room's balcony has become uninhabitable, and it's apparently impossible to use the pool due to bugs on the chairs, etc (even the lifeguard is having difficulty). Does anyone have any suggestions on DVC resorts that are perhaps less infested, so that they could find a usable pool for a day?

I would ask the concierge desk to maybe call around and
see if it is the same everywhere...
Good luck
Kerri

Thanks; they claim it's the same everywhere, but...

Lovebugs are a problem twice a year (Sept/May) in much of Florida and even up into south Georgia. The swarms move about. You could hear that it's not that bad in one pool location but they could be awful by the time you got over there. This is not one of those predictable things, sorry.

Sorry but it will be the same at other pools, especially those with white deck and pool furniture. They are attracted to white, which includes the pool towels.

The only way to avoid them as stated is to avoid the time of year.

How long does love bug season last?

Can't believe I'm answering a question for LisaS... :worship:

I believe May through October is the season... and particularly bad at both ends.

To the OP... I don't think HHI has lovebug problems.... got to watch out for those little land crabs though... They're everywhere...

Just wait until I book my first VB trip!

Thanks for the info. I have seen them on our May trips, but they weren't too bad. All of these lovebug posts have me wondering what we'll find when we're down there in October...

When we were in FL in late May it was very bad (except at the Gulf Shore in South FL). By the time we headed to WDW about a week later, they were winding down.

Being from southern Georgia myself, about 3 1/2 hours away from WDW, I can attest to this! It's just a fact of life.

Night swim.

It's the only way we've found to avoid them poolside in Sept.

Not to hijack but... for May... do they generally come in mid-month the way they do in Sept?

It can vary, but yes. And they're really only annoying for about 2 weeks.
