Tips for Rainy Park Days

This is inspired by tonight's rain in WDW.

1)Ziploc type bags are your friend.
*Helps keep electronics like cameras dry.
*Put your tissues, papers, and other esential dry. I realized the hard way in losing some papers with our adrs.

2)Try to have a positive attitude.
3)Rain gear like umberellas and ponchos are handy.
*We had umberellas and still got drenches with the heavy rain. The people with the Dollar store type ponchos up to the Disney type of poncho were mostly dry under there covers.
4)Footwear that are non-skid, dries well, and have support.

5) Don't forget to keep cell phones dry.

Anyone can add more tips.

Pick up a towel off the floor and dry yourself off.

Seriously, at Wilderness Lodge tonight and they had a LOT of leaks in the roof so had towels down to soak up the water and I saw a woman pick up a towel from the floor and WIPE HER FACE OFF! I am not kidding! Who does that??? Even disregarding the fact that it was there for a purpose, would you just pick up a random towel from the floor and dry yourself off with it???

I guess its a good thing that we did not upgrade to WL.

We were drenched in pixie dust today. We were upgraded (at least until Saturday) to a Jr. Suite at CSR.


There are not enough places to stay dry at DHS in heavy blowing rain.

*Another tip--- no white clothes with chance of rain. There were some people that were crossing their arms. I like darker colors for good reason.

Ponchos are you best friend; but plan ahead for extra pair of shoes. we got caught without our luggage for several hours in Dec "09 and our feet were soaked. It took days to dry out our shoes.
We still stayed in Epcot and did as much as we could despite the cold and wet.

Tip for wet shoes...crumple newspaper inside the shoes overnight. It draws the wet from the shoes, often overnight depending how drenched they got. If really wet, you may need to repeat with new paper.

I always bring 2 pairs of shoes so that when the first one gets sopping wet, I have another pair.

Ponchos didn't work for us. If you have to wear the thing in the heat, you start to build up sweat and end up wet after about 30 minutes. Plus, some rides won't let you on with them, so you have to take it off, which drips some water on you. Then you have to hold it - more water. No more ponchos.

I'm now one of those wacky "Get in out of the rain" people who leave the park when it rains. If I have to carry a purse, I toss a platic bag in it so that if it rains I can drop my purse into the bag.

wow! thats crazy! I would have taken her picture....and posted on here for what NOT to do...although, that would be common sense in most people's minds. lol.

I always go to DHS prepared.....I always get drenched when I go there...not sure why, but it seems to rain every time I go into that park. I have my poncho in my back pack, and have plastic bags at the ready.

Typically, when it rains..it's doesn't last long....instead of leaving the park, we go on an indoor ride or gift shops and wait it out.

Frogg Toggs make an economical Rain Suit that you can buy. They are very lightweight and breathable. They almost feel like they are made out of tyvek or a paper type material. I bought an off brand at Sam's Club last year for around $19.96 for the complete suit. I do alot of fishing and find myself in many rainstorms during the summer. A regular rainsuit is much too hot for me. This type of rainsuit is also very handy because you can fold/roll it up and it does not take alot of room in your backpack/bag.

We were there last year and I wore mine with a pair of crocs one day during the rain. Had a ball!

When we go to WDW we always bring a raincoat that is breathable (very important) and if it looks like rain I wear my Keen shoes---waterproof, comfortable and they dry quick.

If you're using a stroller, bring a stroller cover with you. (You can get good generic ones at places like Babies R Us, or you can see if your stroller manufacturer makes a custom fit one and order that.) Keep it folded and at the bottom of your bag or in the stroller basket. After spending the Week of Nonstop Torrential Rain at WDW in May 2009 (and having two stroller covers with us!), I made sure we had them with us again in 2010. The one day the heavens opened, DH and I went into full execute mode and had the kids covered in the strollers in a minute.

The covers also help keep your stuff in the basket dry, and if the weather's threatening, they're a good precaution when you park the stroller before going into an attraction or restaurant. The cover takes up a little extra room in the day bag, but I really felt it was worth it.

Now that we're stroller free we pack the girls' windbreakers in my bag on days when the forecast is questionable. I stick with my poncho to keep my backpack covered and accessible during the rain.

Not sure...another option...try putting them in a paper grocery bag...worth a shot!
