So I'm trying to create a list of all the tips I can think of to keep the hotel room organized and neat. Especially because most rooms are very small.
Here's what I have so far and please add any ideas that may help.

  • Hanging shoe organizer for toiletries behind bathroom door
  • 2 -6 shelf Hanging sweater organizers with outfits folded together (tops folded into bottoms with underwear and socks)
  • Shoes to be lined up under beds????
  • Suction cup hooks to put in the bathroom for bathing suits
  • Suction cup toothbrush holders to put on sink area mirror
  • Luggage to be stored under bed or ask desk to store
  • Popup three section laundry basket to go under sink area
  • Pack a folded up cardboard box to store souvenirs and ship home on last day

We drive and put our suitcases and things we don't need often or may not need at all (laundry soap, jackets, etc) in the van.

We each have an LL Bean toiletry bag. The bag has a hook so it hangs up anywhere, and it folds up and zips closed to pack in a suitcase. All the toiletries and toothbrushes are put back in them right after they're used.
We pack a duffle bag in our luggage for souvenirs. It's easy to manage and will fit under an airplane seat for the flight home.

We like to bring a power strip to plug in all our electronics in one place. It helps to keep the room a little more tidy and provides some extra outlets too.

I like to bring a small plastic basket to keep KTTW cards/sunglasses etc in on the table.

*Open up the ironing board and place it in the closet/vanity area and it acts as a shelf under your hanging clothes.

*Pack a duffel bag that folds up small (I bought one at Walmart last year) and put all dirty clothes into it at the end of each day. At the end of the vacation, just zip it up and you're already mostly packed and the suitcase is freed up to pack souvenirs.

Just wanted to let you know that you can't always hang shoe organizers on the bathroom door.
The hanger things don't always fit. And often the door won't close.

Also there is no room under the beds onsite. Most of them are now on platforms.

We put our shoes along the window wall of the room. That worked well for us. We only had 2 pair a person out. the rest were left in the suitcase.

Suitcases were put in the area of the bathroom sink under the closet rods.

not my idea - but from the cruise board - use a hanger to hold the over the door organizers - it can then be hung either on the closet rod or in the bathroom on the robe hook

We brought fabric storage cubes that fold up for each person to put on top of the closet shelf and plastic storage baskets for under the bathroom sinks.
We had four people and four baskets fit. We brought some of our own hangers so we could hang most of our clothes due to lack of drawer space. Since we drove we kept our unpacked suitcases in the car. Our 10 year old kept her clothes, which were packed as outfits in ziploc bags, in a hanging shoe shelf that hung on the closet bar. We stayed at POR and kept pretty organized thanks to these ideas I learned here on the DIS.

These cubes work great!!! If you r looking for a lighter option recycle bags like the ones u get at publix fit perfect and hold loads of stuff. I find the ones with the stiffer sides hold up better. Publix even has a disney series running right now. At $1 each i dont feel bad if they dont make it back into the suitcase for the trip home.

I take a pop up laundry hamper for our dirty laundry. It means every few days I can lift it and take it straight down to the laundry room and then bring the clothes back to the room in it when they are clean and dry.

Clothes: I pack our clothes into giant ziploc bags. For example, DD's socks in one bag, my socks in another, DD's T shirts in one, mine in another and I do this for all our clothing. When we arrive we take all the sealed bags and put them into the drawers and we keep them organized that way throughout our stay. So when clean laundry comes up after doing washing, the items are packed back into appropriate categories. I used to do this when DD was little as it made it easy for her to see where the socks, shirts and everything were. I know some folk do an outfit per bag but we do long stays and that seemed a bit complicated for us, although the idea is a great one

I have a large, square, plastic cookie container with a click-seal lid and all our toiletries and sun creams go into that. I take it as is out of the case and put the toothpaste, brushes and mouthwash out on the vanity area and everything else stays in the box beneath. This also helps if anything gets bashed about on the flight so any breakage or leakage will be contained within the box and not ruin our clothing.

This makes packing up easier too.

When my kids were little, I did the outfit in a ziploc bag trick and it was great. I labeled each outfit with the name and terms like "dressy" or "hot day." For some of our trips, I labeled them by the day they were to be worn. Overkill, but DH really liked not having to think. Even easier once the kids could read.

When traveling with kids I have always packed one full outfit in a lg ziplock or plastic bag. So much easier when kids can just grab their own clothes without looking for anything! Also a bag for dirty clothes in the bathroom. I also take a outlet strip for plugging and charging! And one mesh bag that holds all the swim stuff needed!

We use zip up cloth/mesh bags for our clothes inside our suitcase for shoes and clothes and just put the whole thing in drawers as is. One suitcase is turned into a hamper with the dry cleaning bag usually provided in rooms as a liner.

My toiletries are kept my toiletry bag on the counter. inside mine, there are compartments and items are stored in them (I have a vera bradley one.) Hubby uses one by ll bean that hangs on the bathroom door clothes hook found behind most hotel bathroom doors. Toothbrushes..special folding travel ones... are put into one of the cups in the bathroom.

souvenirs are left in their original packaging and put in the remaining suitcase. Suitcases are stored in the closet. shoes? floor of the closet.

Any electronics must fit in the safe. stuffies must be cuddled nightly. oh wait, that's not tidy room advice, sorry, got carried away!

I do not bring extra stuff to hold items (except those small mesh/cloth bags cause that makes unpacking FAST!) when you have perfectly good suitcases that everything has to go back in, anyway.

if i only bring one suitcase, clothes not to be worn again go into a drawer...if they are stained or a bathingsuit, they go in the plastic laundry bag.

Ask Mousekeeping to bring you extra hangers. They'll bring you as many as you want, either the skirt/pants kind (with clips) or the regular kind. By hanging as many things as possible, it really freed up drawer space.

Ziploc bags help keep things organized in drawers.

We do a modified version of this. DH likes to put his clothes in the drawers, whereas I don't care. As we go through our dirty clothes, they go into his suit case and all left over clean clothes go in my suitcase along with some souvenirs (like non-breakable stuff).

We never use the iron on vacation ;), but we are a family of 5 and usually stay at POR, so to maximize counter space, I open the ironing board and keep it that way, so we can use the top of it. It works like a charm! It's a great place to let your mugs air dry :thumbsup2

Every time we go on vacation anywhere, I buy a 6 pack (there are 6 of us) of multi colored toothbrushes for $1 from Walmart to bring and we just throw them away before we head out on the last day. I hate packing wet or used toothbrushes, just grosses me out! I may be a bit OCD, but it works well for our family! Not really an organizational tip, but thought I'd mention the idea!
