Tips for Family of 6

We are a family of 6 (me, DH. DS (11), DD (17), DD (23), DSIL (28)) who will be coming to DLR from SC June 8-13. We will be staying at the DLH and plan to spend most of our time at DLR. The older kids may venture down to San Diego for the day. I need suggestions for dining and tours of Disneyland. We would prefer to eat TS @ lunch since is less expensive.

What sorts of foods does you/your family like? It all depends cause DL has a wide variety of foods to choose from, other places have more selection then others.

We are not too adventurous with our food choices. At WDW last year we ate at O'hana, Garden Grill, 50's Prime Time, Donald's Breakfastsaurus... Traditional american mainly. The kids want to go to Blue Bayou because of the atmosphere. This will be our only trip to DLR so I want to make sure they make it to the not-miss places.

Do you mean you prefer "counter service"? Usually table service is the most expensive.

For counter service we like Taste Pilots Grill at DCA. We like Rain Forest Cafe in DTD (table service of course). At DL we like Redd Rockett's Pizza Port for counter service.

As for tours, do you mean you want to go on a scheduled tour at DLR?

A great place for you to read is: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599. It is hydroguy's DLR Guide for the WDW Vet. Sounds like you have been to WDW- so this might be a great guide to start with!

That said, there's not really much as far as Table Service meals at DLR. Some of the restaurants we like are Cafe Orleans, Blue Bayou, Plaza Inn (yummy pasta and fried chicken), Carnation Cafe (incredible loaded baked potato soup). Over at DCA our favorite is Taste pilot's grill - we love their chicken sandwiches. Yummmy.

When eating table service, we prefer to do so at lunch as the prices are a little cheaper. We usually do not eat counter service in the parks. As far as tours, I thought the kids might enjoy a tour of one the parks. The "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" sounds intriguing. For a family of six would it be better to do a scheduled tour for 50-60 $ pp or a VIP tour for $75 ph for the whold group?

I like to "tour" early & sometimes will eat a late breakfast/early lunch. (Carnation Cafe is great) as would several character meals (Minnie's in DL, Goofy's in your hotel) for this.

Also several great sit down "lunch places" in DTD (which you walk thru on your way into or out of DL). Check out the dining thread sticky at the top of the first DL page for lots of info. Also read AllEars menus.

Lastly, if nice out...eat outside at the Trattoria in DCA (for lunch or early dinner). & do read the tip thread mentioned in a post above.

We, too, like to eat at Wine Country Trattoria (TS) in DCA for lunch. (as PP Hound 109 has said) The Pizzeta Salad is really good, and totally sharable between two. (Romaine hearts, Roma tomatoes, smoked bacon, crumbled blue cheese, Kalamata olives with a creamy Italian dressing served on a warm pizzeta crust $9.99) I share this with my DM and get the olives on the side. When I share it with DSis we get no olives, and bleu cheese on the side. The contrast between the warm bread and the cold lettuce is really good. The only complaint I have about WCT is that the breadsticks, while good, should be served warm. They are always served cold. I have even been able to make ADR (PS) at WCT on the same day we go. I'll stop by the phones outside of Guest Services at the entrance of DCA to call and make them. You can make them with as little as 1 hr. before you want to eat (they can't make them for any shorter time). I love to walk up about an hour after I've made ADRs and only have had to wait a few minutes before we are called. Especially when walk-ups are being quoted 20 min., or so.

Eat outside (if it's a nice day). The patio has a great atmosphere and sometimes you can schedule it for when a parade goes by.

For CS we like Pizza Port. My DD8 loves the Chicken Fusilli at PP and we share it quite often. While Pizza Oom Mow Mow (DCA) has the same pasta, I don't like it as well. Their salads are the same $ as PP but are prepackaged, with dressings in those squeeze on packages. The salads at PP are mixed and tossed fresh, and are really large. The Chinese Chicken Salad is really good. Also, at PP you can refill your drinks, you can't at POMM.

And don't forget for a quick snack to stop by Mission Tortilla factory to see a (very) short film and get free, fresh, hot tortillas. Flour, or corn, depending on what they are making.
