I've cut some of my flowers in the past and I'll have more to cut this year. I would love to hear some tips on maximizing their 'vase-life'.

On woodier stems (like roses), I'll scrape the stem near the bottom to allow for more water absorption. On every flower, I cut the bottoms at a sharp diagonal angle for the same reason.

I usually cut off the foliage at the bottom and part way up. I hope that's helpful and not hurtful.

Should I put it in the fridge at night?

What should I add to the water to help? I've heard aspirin. I sometimes add a drop of Miracle-Gro, for lack of anything else. Should I change the water daily? Add to it? Should I buy oasis to help them last longer? I know oasis would make better arrangements.

I'd really appreciate any tips on how to enjoy my flowers even longer. Thanks, Buds!

Heather,

On all cut flowers except bulb type, cut all stems at a diagonal, remove any foilage that would be in the water, and put in hot water. Changing the water and cutting the stems every other day will pro long their life. On bulb type; tuilps, buttercups and etc, cut stems at a diagonal and place in cold water. Tuilps will contine to grow once cut and in a vase, they will also open and close.

Hope these tips help.

Do they sell Flora-Life at Wal-Mart?
