Tips for a little extra magic while in DL?

Just thought I'd start a topic on what guests like to do that always seems to add a little magic to their park visit.

My favorite thing began as a fluke a couple years ago while getting on Big Thunder with my niece. As we were ascending the hill, the fireworks show began. I now always make sure to ride Big Thunder at least once during the fireworks show. It's really a unique experience seeing the skies exploding in color as you whiz around and through the mountain!

I don't have anything nearly as exotic as that...but sounds lilke I should try it!! I live in San Diego...so go several times a year and for each trip I search the Unofficial Guide for something to do that I haven't yet...and that is my "MUST DO" for that trip. Everyone in the group officially names their "M.D." and we make it a mission. Silly, but it makes it a bit more special for my family.
Unfortunately often our visitors/guests pick the Tiki Room. It has it's following....but I am not an enthusiast! Dole Whip...yes!
Also, we always take a picture of whatever group is with us in one of the letters spelling California in front of DCA. I then display them in a HUGE multi-picture frame.
Doesn't compare with fireworks tho!

On our honeymoon we got to view the fireworks while riding the teacups. That's FUN!


Our extra magic is self-induced and makes our traveling companions roll their eyes. During the honeymoon we established a long and complicated list of "kissing places" and frequently stop to declare that wherever we are is one.

It starts with boats. A boat is a kissing place. Just because.

A car, hang glider, train, space shuttle, rocket ship, river raft, flying elephant, etc. is a conveyance and therefore a kissing place.

A bridge is a way to cross water, making it like a boat and therefore a kissing place.

A pier is half a bridge and therefore requires a quick kiss. (Only half a kissing place.)

A tree is wood. Wood is often used to make boats. This means that underneath a tree is... you get the picture.

Im so gonna have to try that. I never thought of that. It sounds so magical in a very strange but amazing way.

The exact same thing happened to us at WDW two years ago. Didn't plan it, but the fireworks exploded during our entire ride on Big Mountain. It was almost psychedelic . It was so cool (& the line was so short due to the fireworks), we ran around and rode it a second time.

We did the same on Splash on the 4th of July, it was awesome fun and because no one was waiting we went round three times. One of the highlights of the trip we got to ride our favourite ride and still saw most of the fireworks.

our family loves big thunder during fireworks too! and we have done the multiple rides too.
i just love disneyland at night. it seems so much more magical. on our first family trip, my DH and 2 oldest DDs wanted to ride indy at about 11:30p.m. my youngest DD and i went to coke corner and got a mickey pretzel and sat and listened to the piano player while we waited. i can't explain it......something about late night, good music, people watching..... that is one of my most magical memories. we always make a point to sit down somewhere around closing time and just watch everyone leaving. another good place to do this is on those half circle benches on the bridge going to the castle. everyone should sit on these at least once and watch the world go by! take time to stop and feel the magic.

For giving that special lady im wish some extra magic in her night at disneyland, does anyone know if i can get a bouqet holder for flowers anywhere inside the park? i was going to surprise her during the parade show or fireworks, with, you know, near main street or wherever you find them, is a cart where they sell roses that glow and light up, i was going to buy her a " bouqet " of these, around 12 to 14 and surprise her, anyone know if i can find one, or am i going to have to sneak one into the lockers from the outside or something?

We rode (DM, DD 5, DD 3, DS 1) the alice in wonderland ride during the Parade. When we were exiting the final tunnel we saw Ariel on top of her float and yelled out "ARIEL"..she looked right at my daughters and waved...They talk about that moment all the time.

Done the Thunder Mtn fireworks...awesome. It was by accident, but a definite must do.

We always do the Golden Horseshoe. Awesome show. No matter how many times we've seen it. Same with Aladdin in CA. Kids really want to bake cookies this time. So it is a mission in Dec. And we must finish our pennies. Canal boats at night are cool too. Miniature lights galore.

As for the rose idea...their are lots of vendors around after dark with these. But a dozen is gonna cost you. Might I recommend Oriental Tading Company online before you leave. Pack them in secret and pull them out when the time is right. Backpacks in the park are the norm. She won't question you. Especially if you are willing to carry her sweater and purse and camera and... Need I go on?

Thats funny you mentioned all of that cause thats exactly what my mom and I did and exactly how we feel. We still talk about it to this day. Those are some of our favorite memories, being there at night walking around, everything all lit up and you can just relax without the major crowds. You can take your time and not care about anything in the world. Thats the time that I can really feel the appreciation for what Walt has given us, and I kind of like to sit there or slowly walk around feeling extremely relaxed and honor that.

One of my favorite places and memories was walking through though critter country and into NOS and over looking the Rivers of America and have the fireworks go over head. It was about 9:30 at night the park was so much quieter during that time, but the bands in NOS were playing and everything was sparkling, you can hear the chimes of the Haunted Mansion and giggling laughter coming from everyone. You can just look at people and see the joy on their face as the night ends and know what a great day they had. Although it sounds sappy, just thinking about it makes me cry. I cant wait to go back and take it all in again Sunday.
