Years ago, when my children were young we took them to the MK and Epcot. The GF was being built and the WS did not even exist. We were in FL for ten days, and we only spent the last half in WDW, but I came home exhausted. I swore we would never vacation that way again, so when my DGD came along and we planned a trip with DD and DSIL, we approached the entire stay as if it was a real vacation. From the resort to the dining to our touring plans. Anyway, for many, we must have seemed like "that" family. You know the one...drags a map around, does not hit half of the attractions, stakes out parade spots ahead of time, and stands in character lines. We did all of that, and had the best time of our lives.
My DH had told me to plan as though we would be returning at least twice a year, and to have back p plans in case my DGD was overwhelmed, overstimulated, or just plan scared, because he had heard form coworkers that they left mad at their kids when all the littles wanted to do was to swim. Now DD had asked us to make sure we were not placing too much on a little girl, making her responsible to fulfill all of those visions that we may have had in terms of how she would react, so we were well aware of how those people got to where they were, but did not want to fall into it.
We still tour that way, we see what we see, and experience the attractions that we get to. We do plan so we can experience what is important to us, but we also make sure we enjoy the entire experience. ANd I have never needed a vacation from WDW again.
