Hey guys :flower3:

I am beginning my new job working at Disney World, and I flying down there this Sunday morning. I am a little nervous about flying as it's my first time and I'll be by myself. :scared1:

I would really love any tips or advice to sort of help ease the anxiety a little, it would be greatly appreciated :goodvibes

Awww, congratulations on the new job and your first flight!

About flying-know the rules about what you can and can't take on board. You can always buy snacks/beverages, etc. once you pass through security. Wear shoes that slip on and off easily.

If you're nervous, (there's no need to be), be sure to take distractions for yourself like IPod, books, snacks (lots of snacks), your computer (see if your airline has wi-fi.)

Have fun!

I agree! Nothing to fear, just be prepared, if you have never flown before check the TSA website for information and guidelines, otherwise just pay attention to the time and where you need to be, bring something to occupy your time and sit back and relax! You will be in orlando in no time!

Wow, congratulations! Do you know what you'll be doing at Disney World?

I'm not sure where you're flying from or on what airline, but several airlines have you check in 24 hours prior to your flight, so do that on Saturday. If you don't have to do that, confirm your reservations (online or phone) just to make sure everything is correct.

Since you're leaving Sunday morning, the good news is that traffic to the airport should be pretty light. I would recommend you get there 2 hours before your flight. Since its your first time, it wouldn't hurt to get there before that.

Since you'll be going thru security, be aware what the TSA regulations are for what you can carry thru the security line. Make sure you have no knives, scissors and all that. Also be aware that some liquids can't go thru the line and some things that you can bring have to be in a quart size ziploc bag. Look at, and get somewhat familiar with, what is listed at www.tsa.gov.

Of course, make sure you bring ID with you...a photo drivers license should do the trick. Also make sure that your name on your drivers license matches the name on your air reservation.

You should also confirm how you're getting to Disney from the airport. If you're renting a car, confirm your reservation as well (and it wouldn't hurt to check again, it might be cheaper!).

Try not to get too nervous; flying can actually be fun!

first, i want to echo what everyone above has said--there's no reason to be nervous, you'll be fine! flying is fun, and so much faster than any other type of transportation! but second, i want to say something kind of contradictory--give yourself permission to be nervous. the first time i flew somewhere alone, i cried when my husband dropped me off at the airport (to be fair, i was going away alone for almost a month) but i was a bit shaken up. by the time i came home, i was fine! you'll get used to it in no time!

a tip to help calm you once actually on the plane, if you have an iPod, check out relaxation podcasts (in iTunes, search 'meditation' or 'relaxation' under podcasts). totally free, and very helpful. i have many on my iPhone (meditation station is a favorite), and i listen to them whilst traveling all the time. i have an all-consuming fear of tunnels, and my meditation podcasts got me across--er, under--the english channel on the eurostar.

and congrats on the job! that's super exciting!!! :thumbsup2

As for what I will be doing, I will be working in one of the giftshops throughout Disney World, I don't find out where until I check in down there :)

If anyone has more tips feel free to share :yay:

Thank you :) It's going to be tough for me as well, this is the first time I'll be away from home (I'm 18 years old) so it's sure to be emotional. But now it's easier to stay in touch with video chat, etc. :)

Hey sweetie. . .my son is 18 and loves flying and is an expert traveler. . .Please understand that if you get homesick or have issues, all of us at the DIS are here to help you. . .Welcome to Central Florida. . .

Well, the only tip I can give you is one you probably can't control, unless you're on Southwest. Sit next to a young child. I was nervous about my first solo flight, but when I got on the plane I found out I was next to a little girl flying alone. There was no way I was going to let my nerves show and possibly get her upset! By about 30 minutes into the flight we were both fine!

Are you doing the College Program? Dont worry, you will make tons of friends and have a blast down there! It's ok to be a lil sad about leaving home, but your growing up and taking the next big step - It really is a happy time!!!! Plus, Its DISNEY WORLD!!!

I always watch the flight attendants, they always look so bored, even when there is turbulance. I have yet to see a flight attendant flail their arms while screaming (muppet-style) so I figure that until I see that happen, all is good.
Congrats on your job!
