What is the correct way to tip housekeeping, daily or on your last day? Also, how much is recommended? We are 3 people in 1 room.

Housekeeping is not considered a tipped position - so tipping is not required.

That being said - we tip daily (because you may not have the same person each day) and we tip $1 - $2 per person.

Hi,

We tip about $2 - $5 per day using Mousekeeping Envelopes for a family of 4.

We tend to leave a larger tip on the last day as we leave.

AFTER READING THESE BOARDS WE ARE USING MOUSEKEEPING ENV EACH DAY. I JUST DOWNLOADED SOME DISNEY CLIPART AND PRINTED SOME UP ON MY PRINTER - VERY EASY. WE TIP $2-3 A DAY AND WE ARE ONLY 2 ADULTS. WOULD DOMORE IF WE HAD KIDS OR IF THE PLACE WAS A MESS.

Thanks for the envelope idea its great, I am going to make some too!! If you tip mousekeeping will they make those cute little animals using the towels?

Towel animals are something that some mousekeepers can do and some cannot. It is not something that you will (or should) expect as a 'reward' for tipping. It is generally something that they will do if they know how and if they have the time.

Tipping should be a way for you to acknowledge a job well done, that is why I prefer to tip on the last day, unless I required something out of the ordinary from mousekeeping then I have been known to leave a tip on that specific day.

Do they leave a little card with their name each day? At some of the nicer place (non-WDW) I've stayed, they do. If so, could I leave mousekeeping envies for each person at the end of my stay. If so, where should I leave them...the room, front desk...

I will say, that I have never tipped a housekeeper at a hotel, but have never asked for anything "extra" or left the place super messy.

I took the extra time to print out several "Mousekeeping" envelopes for my last trip -- they were SO cute!! (I downloaded them from another website.) We put a housekeeping tip in each envelope before we left (I believe it was $5 per day for my family of 4) and each morning before we left our room, left one of the "mousekeeping envelopes" on the nightstand. For the first two days, our envelope was left behind! The housekeeper obviously didn't realize it was for her. After the second day of seeing our tip go untouched, we took the money out of the envelopes, tossed the empty envelopes in the trash, and left the money on the nightstand instead. That worked. ;)

During our trip to CR in 2002, mousekeeping didn't touch our envelopes that we had made for them!
We even tried leaving some cash on the bathroom vanity but they left that as well. On our last day we left a sizeable tip on the bed, realizing that the person who came that day may have not touched our room during the entire stay...

Can't stay we didn't try! :p

Just returned 4/14 after eight days at CBR. We (family of 4)) left five dollars every day in those mousekeeping envelopes downloaded from another site. First day there I requested a extra towels, soap, and shampoo if possible, also requested early cleaning. Every day we received more than ample supply of everything including early cleaning. On three or four occasions housekeeping left towel animals which our kids enjoyed. The five dollar tip every day was well spent money on our part and a small supplement to the wages of hard working people. Next time I will probably leave more.

I always tip, I find Disneys house keeping to be quite good, better than most hotels and resorts.

That being said, depending on what kind of mess we leave the room we do between 2 and 4 a day, and usually leave a 10 on the last day cause we tend to leave a lot more stuff behind when we check out.

I can't imagine working as hard as those people do for the money they make. I can say this because I know someone who worked as a housekeeper at WDW. They don't work 8 - 4 or whatever, they work until they are finished with their assignment.

Tip them and tip them BIG. They deserve every penny they earn.

Some do - some don't.

As already stated - don't expect it but think of it as a pleasant suprise. During this years trip we had amazing animals etc at Pop but nothing apart from a toothbrush holder at the Contemporary.

- Spot on!

I wanted to add to this - I have cleaned rooms in my college days at a National Park. We were taught you don't touch ANY $$ or personal items (envelopes, etc). The only item you can consider a tip was if they left $$ on their pillow, or under the pillow. When I tip now I ALWAYS put the tips 1/2 under and 1/2 sticking out of the pillow. DD usually likes to leave her $1 under her pillow herself :)

Just an FYI

I do not believe there is a "correct" way. Some tip some do not. Some like myself sometimes forget as officially housekeeping is not considered a tipped position. When we do tip we tip $1 per person in the room per day.

:) When we were at Disney, our DD's colored envelopes at night for housekeeping. It gave them something to do and wind down after a fun Disney day.
We came back one afternoon with the tv on, and their stuffed animals, positioned at the end of the bed watching it. DD's thought this was great. Another time, a Housekeeping supervisor left a message on our phone, complimenting us on the wonderful envelopes she saw from our room. We were satying at the All Star Sports.
