Tipping?

We are staying at the AKL on the Concierge floor. My question is do you tip the concierge for their help? If so what amount is good. I'm awful at knowing what to tip...also what do you tip in the room?

...is forbidden.

Or, at least, the concierge staff is not permitted to accept tips. Your gratitude is gratuity enough :)

We typically leave three dollars a day for housekeeping. That covers just my wife and myself.

When my DW and I stayed at WL for our 25th anniversary, Randall (one of the CMs working concierge) went above & beyond the call of duty so many times for us that we gave him a monetary "thank you" inside a card & envelope. We felt that his service was definitely worth more than a verbal "thank you."

We later stayed at BC concierge. The staff were helpful on several occasions, but not in a knock your socks off way. When we left, we bought them a box of candy to share among themselves with a nice thank you card for their service and support.

I suppose it depends on what you feel is deserved by the service you receive. At Disney concierge is not listed as a "tipped" position, but if you believe the staff deserves a monetary gratuity, you could give it to them discretely (like inside a card).

And depending on who you believe, Conceirge *may* accept a tip after three attempts or they may not.

A gift may be more appropriate where service above and beyond the call of duty is given. But as you will no doubt find out, Concierge is a non-tipping service by default.

I've never "tipped" concierge monetarily for a number of reasons. But I have given them a box of Godiva choclates to share at the end of each trip.

Does anyone know where the link to a thread is on listing on tipping - Who, What When Where and Why?

I don't know the link but this is what we did;

Bell services: $1 per bag coming and going
Mousekeeping: $1 per person in the room and the same for turn down service

Restaurants...well, lots of debate here, I ussually tip 15% for good service, less and I tip less but I let the manager know (never has happened at WDW) I have tipped 35% at the Kona Kafe and it was worth every penny.

We tip if we feel the service is worth tipping for. If we work the concierge staff with problems or extra duties and they go the extra mile for us, we will try to tip or go buy a bottle of wine. If they take it, great.. if not, then we'll drink the wine on our last night's stay. We have had several concierge staff members take our tips but have also been turned down from time to time as well so it comes down to who you are trying to take care of.

When in doubt... tip. In fact you should overtip! It can really make someone's day and costs you relatively little. It is also good for the soul.
