This is our first time to stay on site. We're staying at ASMo and i'd like some advice on tipping housekeeping please.
Thanks:confused:

We always tip $1 per person each day. And if our little guy is particularly messy, we might add another $1 or $2.

My suggestion, is don't bother. We tried it once and the housekeeping we got was the worst we ever had, since then, I have decided that it is not worth the trouble.

For my first and only trip, We did the same on our stay, $1 per person, per day.

Disney openly states that there is no tip mandate regarding mousekeeping. As such, it's based on how you feel. We've gone countless times and most of the time we don't tip at all as we keep a fairly clean room and quite frankly there doing there job by replacing towels, etc.

It's about your own personal preferences when it comes to mousekeeping tips.

Do a board search on tipping and you will find a ton of opinions on the matter. In short, I don't tip unless there is some extraordinary reason (i.e. special housekeeping request, we trashed the room, etc.).

We usually do a dollar per person, I have been a house keeper and it is back breaking work. And to those people who figure why should you tip they are already getting paid for doing there job, try cleaning 15-19 rooms a day multiply those rooms by at-least 2 beds each, and and then add all the bathrooms up. Really is a one or two dollar tip going to break you? Oh but lets forget when we are there for Christmas eve and Christmas Day that these people have families that they would like to be with, oh but excuse me they have to clean the rooms, they don't get the holiday off, and if you think their making holiday pay or getting a bonus think again . You know what their bonus is People who say why should I tip they get paid to do it. Go ahead flame me now , I cleaned hotel rooms once for a living until my back stopped me , but I forgot I was doing My Job and You a service.:worship:

Then by this statement, we shouldn't tip our food servers, the people who help us with our luggage, our cab drivers, hairdressers, etc, because they're all doing their jobs.

Look, tipping is personal. Tip or don't tip. It's up to you. My mom works in a hotel and feels that this is a tipped position. These ladies work hard for minimum wage. They work weekends and holidays. If my 3 bucks a day makes a difference in someone's life, then I have no problem tipping for service.

We tip $2 a day and then $5 at the end if the service was good. Many of the women work for so little money and are doing hard work, and yet they have such a cheerful disposition. I have money all set up before we leave and put it into envelopes. From our experience, they really appreciate it. We also bring Cdn maple syrup and give it to servers or other cast members who go out of their way to try and make our stay wonderful. The server at boma really, really appreciated it and brought us out something special from the kitchen as a way to say thanks.

We have gone to Disney many times and we tip a $1 per person per day....when the kids were little and messy we would throw a tad extra in. It might be their job, but it our way of saying thank you! We all like to be appreciated for what we do..... In addition, it has taught our children to be respectful and appreciative for other people and what they do to make our life easier and pleasant.

We preprint envelopes and put the money in the morning before we leave the room. Have a great trip!

We tipped $5 per day for 3 people at WL. I thought the room was very clean each day and really appreciated the attention to detail.

I think $3-$5 a day is the average. We are a family of three and usually tip $3 per night, $5 if we've been messy.

Tipping is personal and up to each person to decide what is right for them.;)

Just remember to tip daily (if you're wanting to tip) since it could be a different person cleaning the room each day.

I print these envelopes off from the Mouseforless site and prestuff them before I leave home, then just keep them in the room safe, pulling one out every day. If I'm solo, I usually leave a couple of bucks and if I'm with my husband or mom, we leave three bucks. It's not that much and those housekeepers work hard for very little pay. If I can make their day just a little brighter, then I feel we should. I'm a very neat person, so always make sure the room is tidy before I leave. I use only one of the beds and always roll up the used towels and bath mat into a ball and place in the sink with the tip envelope on top. The housekeeper can be in and out of my room in less than five minutes, but I still feel she deserves a tip.

We tipped $4 per day for our family of four at POP. Although we didn't expect it, our mousekeeper was awesome! We came back to our room each day to find our window re-decorated with new towel animals, DD's stuffed animals and even my daughter's princess dresses and accessories. She also decorated our beds with towel animals and stuffed animals. It was something new each day and my 4 year old loved it (well, we all did actually).

These ladies work hard for very little money. Why not tip them? People will drop ten bucks for a park balloon but begrudge a low paid worker doing back-breaking work a three dollar tip? I don't get it but, as others have said, tipping is not required and it's ultimately up to you.

Thanks everyone. I had planned on tipping but didn't know how much. You've all been very helpful.:smickey:

WOW. You took the words right out of my mouth. I was thinking the same thing when I read how some people don't tip. I am frankly a little shocked that people would not tip for a service rendered.

A waitress is doing her job by taking and delivering food orders, but we still tip waitresses and their job is 100% easier.

I plan to tip my housekeeper. :goodvibes

The difference in this case is that while housekeeping at most hotels is a tipped position, for some reason WDW has decided that housekeeping will not be a tipped position and so the compensation is adjusted accordingly. As such, tips are not discouraged, but they are, essentially, already included in your room rate. A further tip left for the staff would be "above and beyond", if you feel that their performance warrants it.

The restaurant wait staff or bell services, though, are still tipped positions at WDW, and tips for those positions are, while not required in a legal sense, a requirement of accepting the service. So the more applicable comparison would be that one is free to tip the reception desk clerk or attraction CMs in the parks, but there is no need to do so.

It may be included in the room rate, but those employees never see a nickel of that money. They are basically slave labor that work for minimum wage cleaning up after other people. And I am sure there are lots of people who are not exactly neat and clean.

My parents raised me to know that it is appropriate to tip your waitress, housekeeper, valet, chauffeur, etc, and that the garbage men appreciate a case of beer being left by the cans the week of Christmas. :rolleyes1

Again, we're seeing the difference between tipped positions and untipped positions. At WDW, unlike most hotels, housekeeping isn't classed as a tipped position. The compensation schedule is accordingly different, whereas the other positions *are* still considered as tipped positions.

We always plan to tip $5 per day for housekeeping. Whether Disney considers it a tipped position or not, I'm sure it isn't an easy or fun job, cleaning up other people's messes all day. I doubt that they're getting paid very well.
