Tipping vendors at wedding...

I asked my caterer if he usually gets tipped, and if so, how much?

He said between 10% to 20% is standard.

My total bill is $6000, which means the tip would be $600?? Ack! Can that be right? Granted that includes the waitstaff, himself, and the chef...but does that seem excessive to anyone?

Please, experts, help me on this one. What did you tip your caterer at your wedding?

Nope - that's about right!

I do wedding videography and I don't get tipped so don't tip the photographer or videographer, but I'm in the wedding biz and it's pretty much standard practise to tip around 15% for caterers.

Also - find out who supplies the bartender - they might not be covered under the caterer umbrella and that's another tip to account for!

Our gratuity was included in the contract. It was either 15% or 20%. I would definitely peruse the contract to see if it's included, if not then you should definitely tip. It gets divied up among the staff.

How many guests are you having and is it buffet or sit down should factor into the percentage tip given. But if you were taking all these people to a restaurant you would tip on top of the cost of the meals.

We also tipped our day of coordinator, who was really just a friend of a friend and requested a very low fee. We did not tip the florist, photographer, or the DJ as they all owned their own businesses. We might have tipped the cake baker/deliverer, but I'm not sure. Probably not since it included a delivery fee.
