Tipping the Mousekeeping

I usually tip $1 per person in the room each day (so $4 for 4 people). You may not have the same mousekeeper the entire week so tipping day by day is always best. I usually put the money in envelopes labeled "for housekeeping" before my trip and then put it on the table each day before heading out. That way I always have the correct amount and don't really have to worry about it.

No tip is required or expected for housekeeping. They are paid an hourly wage. Tipping has just gotten completely out of hand. Its time to bring it under control. :dance3:

While this may or may not be true I personally prefer to extend a kind hand out to someone for doing a good job. These are not the highest paying jobs in the world out there and I enjoy blessing someone with a little of the blessings that I have been fortunate to receive.

Really?? Is this true? Do most people not tip? I mean if they get paid decent, then I won't tip, but I always thought it was expected, kind of like a waitress at a restaurant. The problem is I never knew how much.

We tip one dollar for person like others. I have mousekeeping envelopes already made up ahead of time. That way at night when I am getting ready for the next morning I just pull out an envelope and lay it on the table. It is so much easier than looking for ones and paper to write on when I am there. Mousekeeping will not take it unless there is a note saying it is theirs. The same goes for any extra food, water or drinks you leave behing. If you don't leave a note stating it is for them they throw the food, water and soda away. Enjoy!

Thank you. Disney rooms are not very clean. Please stop tipping these people for doing a terrible job.

I already made one post on here but now I feel like I need to make another. NO housekeeping does not get paid well - I can assure you of that. Enough to get by but just like waitressing part of their pay is based on tips. Would you go to a restaurant and not tip the waitress? I certainly hope not.

As with anything involving tips, it should be based on performance. However, I have been to Disney almost 30 times and have never once had a problem with mousekeeping or a dirty room. Obviously, some people have and I'm not saying that every room at Disney is pristine but in my experience they do as good of a job as any other hotel I've ever stayed at. And for that, I would never ever NOT tip them. Ever...

Just my opinion...

I always feel that anything Disney is usually immaculate. Surprised and sorry this happens to folks.

I tip around a dollar a day a person as well. More if they do something cute with the plush, or a lot more when we've made a huge mess (dd bought quill and ink at UK pavillion one time and spilled it all over the tile in the bathroom:scared1: )

When I tip at SOG, I almost always get a note from the housekeeper saying thank you and bless you, so I know they appreciate it. If 3-5 dollars is enough in someone's day to prompt a blessing, obviously they need it more than I do and I'm thrilled to pass it along.

This is true. Housekeeping is paid at least minimum wage. Waitstaff are not paid minimum wage and rely on tips. Disney considers housekeeping a non-tipped position.

I personally do not tip housekeeping b/c I do not leave a mess and they do nothing extraordinary or even noteworthy for me & DH when we travel.

I have always gotten better service at any hotel when I leave a tip. Personally, a couple dollars a day to make someone else smile while doing the dirty work, is worth my time. :goodvibes

I've never gotten "poor" service and I don't leave a tip. The condition of the room at check-in is my gague. I've seen housekeepers doing the exact same thing in every room, tip or no. Giving a tip doesn't ensure a towel animal or a thorough vacuuming job done.

I'm not saying you shouldn't tip, but don't expect that any "extras" tied to tips. And if you or your family are on the slobby side, it is a kind gesture but by no means required.

This is right out of TheOfficial Guide to WDW.

Tips are no less valued at Disney resorts than at any other hotel.- $1 per bag for lugging luggage; $1 to $3 per person, per night for housekeeping services(include a note to avoid confusion)
Gratuities of 15 to 20 percent (excluding tax) are customary at full-service restaurants ( if service is exceptional or otherwise adjust accordingly)

We usually tip mousekeeping $5 per day and have always had good service, then of course you can always find probems or something you don't like if you look hard enough.:rolleyes1

I make daily mousekeeping tip envelopes before leaving home. I go ahead and put $1.00 per person per day in the envelope but I don't seal it up. If mousekeeping does something really cool with our son's toys or leaves us cute towel animals, I'll put in another dollar.

We are very tidy travelers. I make sure that all of our dirty towels and washclothes are in a stack on the bathroom floor. I put all of our suitcases in a certain place. I keep all of our condiments in a little stack on the table. When I want the bed linens changed, I pull all of them off the bed and place them on a stack on the floor and leave a note asking that they change them. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Mousekeeping doesn't have to do much to our room.

Hmm...let's see.

7 days with 2 people=$14
7 days with 3 people=$21
7 days with 4 people=$28

People if you can't spare $14-28 bucks for someone who cleans up after you maybe a WDW vacation is out of range for you. :sad2:

Yes they get paid an hourly wage starting pay rate is between $7.35-$9.35. But at 40 hours a week they might be bringing home $300 a week. Please don't try and tell mw they don't depend and hope for those tips.

I cannot see spending thousands of dollars an a trip and not leaving a few bucks for the person who cleans up after you:confused3 .

While we haven't been that "wowed" by the service (no towel animals or anything special), our room has been clean, so we were happy leaving a tip. Our last trip was the exception - and we were tipping each day. All was fine until one morning during the middle of our trip. We put the do not disturb sign out (just for that morning). Well, after that they never cleaned the room. For days. We had to call down to the front desk to ask for our room to be cleaned and to ask for towels! I knew our room was being skipped because the tip envelope was left on the dresser. This was at a Deluxe, so we were disappointed with this. I'm sure our experience was just a fluke (hopefully). We will be returning to this same resort in the spring, and we will continue to tip, but now I think that tipping doesn't really make a difference with the level of service you will receive.

Great post:thumbsup2

We stayed at ASMU from December 19th thru the 28th in one of their suites. It was DH, Myself, and 3 Teenage DD's. We had the best mousekeeper ever. I have discovered that the better you tip them the better they take care of you. Over the period of nine days our mousekeeper recieved $175.00 total. Keeping in mind for Christmas day she received $50.00 from us and on Christmas eve she received $25.00. We are not rich people by any means so we did include this into our budget. She left us very nice notes and beautiful towel animals every day. Thanked us I don't know how many times and our room was always immaculate. People may think that we are crazy but we like to take care of the people that are also taking care of us. If we are staying during a non holiday time of year we normally tip $10 per day no matter how many people are in the room. I guess you could say we work very hard for every dime we make so we just pay it forward when we can. :)
