hi all. i was wondering how much should you generally tip for mousekeeping services & when the best time to tip is? do u tip at the beginning of your stay or at the end? also, if you're getting daily mousekeeping services how much do u tip versus staying at a home away from home resort with mousekeeping services every 4 days? thanks!!!

we like to tip every day of our stay, just in case the person that is there the first day differs from the last day, so each mousekeeper gets tipped for what she did...

the rule of thumb, that i've been taught, is a dollar per guest per day... so for my family of four, we leave $4 or 5 per day... if we've made a big mess or sheets need to be changed or we're asking for "extras" then i try to throw in an extra buck or two...

in advance of our trip, i made up little envelopes that simply said "mousekeeping ~thank you" or something along those lines so it was obvious that it was for them... otherwise you might find your money is right where you left it, as most wdw mousekeepers are incredibly honest! :)

hope that helps...

thanks for the suggestions on everyday mousekeeping! anyone have any thoughts on how much to tip if mousekeeping only comes once every 4 days? thanks!

since we're just two mid-20 somethings we usually tip $3 per day and $5 on the last day. once we have kids :eek i know we'll end up bumping that up a couple bucks.

Hmmm....I tip about the same as the other posters. I did once take the towel animals that I LOVE, put them in middle of bed, begged for more and left $6 for just one day- hoping I would get a second animal. No luck. :) Guess I have to stay at a delux or something-LOL.

But what to tip for mousekeeping that comes once every 4 days. Well, how long are you staying? Are you only staying 4 days, or long enough that she will be there during your stay?
If she only comes once every 4 days, then there will be towels to swap out completely, all beds to be made (probably more than one, right?) At the Home away from home do they organize for you (fold clothes dropped on floor, etc)? Are you messy people? My guess would be somewhere between $6-$10 for a tip. If it's during a holiday, maybe a little more.

My wife and I just returned from the AKL. We left $4.00 a day for Mousekeeping. We were never hurting for towels, etc., and we had some real cute towel animals. Tipping is always your choice. Do as you wish.
:D

Usually leave a $1 per person in the room. :D

We left $5 per day for mousekeeping for the three of us, but the room wasn't very tidy when we left it. I don't like to tidy on vacation. I also left 10 bucks once or twice when the room was extra messy or after I forgot to leave a fiver the day before. We had LOTS of towels and new soap and shampoo every day, since dh hoarded them. :upsidedow

We leave $1 per person each day. We also do the mousekeeping envelopes .
Sometimes we have left candy bars etc with the tip.

Oh, I was sooo shocked to learn a lot of people dont tip at all !!! I asked CM desk and they said it is not considered a "tip type job" :earseek: I left mine in envelopes too 5.00 per day... I did speak to the mkeeper the 1st day as she was cleaning when we got there, and she had the next couple days off, so they do change daily at times of your stay.

I would love to leave something with the $$ ... any ideas out there ??? I just feel it appreciation should be shown for these type workers, ya know.

Hmmm something fun .. thinking ....

We tip everyday. There are 5 of us and we tip $5.00 per day. Last year we had the same mousekeeper every day and she did such a nice job rearranging the kids stuffed animals that on the last day we left her $20.00.

We also tip $5 per day. (family of 4) We leave nice little Mouskeeping envelopes every morning in the bathroom sink. When we come back for our afternoon rest, I put an envelope on the bed for turndown service, since this is usually different mousekeepers. We usually put $2-3 in that one. I always have the envelopes made up and stuffed before we leave home. It's just so much easier than having to try to remember to save our ones!

Hi,

We stopper @ POFQ in May 2 adults, 1 child we tipped $5 per day and left my daughters cuddly toys in different places and positions with clothes on etc holding the tip!. We had a towel animal most days, sometimes the toys were at the window waving to us when we returned back to the room, each maid that cleaned the room left a thankyou.
Fabulous!!

I have to say that I did NOT tip on my last trip to POR. The room had all kinds of cleanliness issues -- incl. but not limited to cobwebs on the sconces, another guest's pubic hairs in the shower & a general lack of attention to basic orderliness. But, we got a towel animal! I just thought, "I wish he or she had put that energy into cleaning the room & not making a whimsical towel animal."

Disney does not consider their housekeeping/mousekeeping to be a tipped position, so there is no reason to tip.

Now if you choose to tip anyway. Then $1 per person per day is considered the "norm" or at least it is here on the Dis.

Question: WHERE do you leave the tip money?

I wonder if they see some money they may think I just misplaced it and leave it exactly where it was to avoid been acussed of taking anything.

I hear some people talking about making envelopes. Are this done with some computer program or you mean regular ol' white envelopes?

Thanks
Eric

If you are talking about the trash and towel service every 4 days at a DVC resort, I do not tip for that.

Full cleanings at DVC resorts (if you are a member staying on points, the guest of a member, or renting points from a member) are every 8 days of a stay, unless the guest pays extra for daily housekeeping. If you are paying cash for the room through CRO, you should get regular daily housekeeping.
