With only a few weeks to go before the 8 of us head to Disney we were wondering about tipping for housekeeping, bell person, van driver etc.

There will be 2 adults/2 children per room what is a good amount to leave per day for housekeeping (we are staying at CBR)

We are getting a van from Tiffany. It is $95 round trip. Does anyone know if you get the same driver both ways or should we tip seperately when we arrive and leave? How much do we tip each if it is different drivers etc?

When we arrive it will be before check-in time. Do they just put your luggage in the room or do you have to call for it later once you are back from the parks? How much is a good tip for say 3 bags?

Anything else you can think of that we may need tips for (other then dining) would be appreciated. We are trying to get envelopes together ahead of time with the tips in them so we can make sure that the $$ are put aside and don't get spent!:hyper:

Thanks!

We stayed at POR and tipped housekeeping $2 per day, and $5 on our last day (we stayed for 3 nights). We also used Tiffany Town Car. We had 2 different drivers, so I would tip each separately. We figured on 15% tip, so we tipped them $15 each way.

There is great debate over what is an appropriate tip. Those who tip a lot think every one else is ill mannered if they tip less than they do. Personally, I think overtipping shows as much of a lack of tipping etiquette as under tipping. Either way, I think tipping should be based on the level of service you receive and not what others think makes a good impression. Having said that, here goes some suggestions:

The CBR does not have bell persons. We have stayed in a moderate only once (it was CBR by the way) and had a car so I don't know what they do with your luggage before check-in, but they won't give you a room ahead of time unless they have one that has been cleaned and is ready for check-in at that moment. They may be able to store your luggage and meet you at your room when it is available. They may take your luggage to your room via golf cart; I don't know for sure. If they do bring your luggage to your room, either via golf cart or by manual cart, $1-$2 per bag should be an appropriate amount.

I would suggest at least $10 each way for the van driver. $15-$20 if he/she is particularly helpful with the luggage at the airport and at the resort.

There is also great debate over tipping house keeping. I usually leave a minimum of $2/night, and leave it each night, if I am by myself. If my wife and 2 children are with me, I leave a minimum of $5. It really depends on how much work we leave for the house keeper to do. I don't worry if the money goes into a "party" fund for the staff or if it goes to a charity or if it goes directly to the staff member. I just leave it in cash, not Disney Dollars by the way, and feel I have said my "thank you" to the person who helps make my stay comfortable.

I'm sure you will get lots of people who will agree or disagree with what I have said. Just remember, it is up to you to decide how much the service you received is worth to you.

Well, we use Tiffany and the round-trip is usually $85, I tip 20% and divide it between the two drivers, so usually give each driver 8-10 dollars each. If you give $15 each way, you are tipping over 30%, not 15%. If I receive exceptional service, naturally I would give extra.

As for mousekeeping, we usually leave $3/day, we really don't make much of a mess, I think this is a reasonable amount.

Most people I know consider me an over-tipper when we go to restaurants, but they haven't read some of the posts here!!

As far as mousekeeping, I am one of those who leaves the tip on my last day and I base it on the level of service I have recevied over the course of my visit.

I have only ever left a tip during my stay once, and that was because I made a special request that was met and I felt that extra care had been taken and was deserving of recognition.

A tip is supposed to reflect gratitude for a job well done which is the main reason I don't tip til then end of my stay, because only then is the job done.

dznyntnh, using your logic how do you know the tip got to the person that actually cleaned your room during your stay? What if that was her day off when you left the length of stay tip?

frequently a different person cleans your room each day, so someone must really appreciate your one time tip.

we always leave something for mousekeeping everyday, usually $5 . Somehow, we always get extra towels, shampoo. etc when we do this!;)

Now, we've just returned from the CR, and when we requested our FIVE extra pillows and extra towels and an extra blanket....the maid refused out tip when she brought these things up!
THAT was a first!

I'm one of those later risers, so I usually get to MEET my mousekeeper for the day, or stay.
I always ask for her name, if she will be our maid for our entire stay or for today only..etc....

Like at AKL, on the 6th floor, there is only 2 maids, and we had one of them the whole stay.
We simply tipped her upfront and everything was always taken care of....she even returned one night when one of the boys was sick and needed fresh sheets.
When DH tried to tip her again, she wouldn't take it.

I guess this is one topic that just ROLLS with the tide.::yes::

i usually tip 2 dollars a day since there are different cleaning ladies.pirate:
