Can anyone tell me what would be considered a proper daily tip if you stay at a 1 bedroom DVC property? It would be just me and my husband. When we stay at a regular room I tip $5/day. Should I double it to $10/day? We always clean up our room every morning before mousekeeping comes so they really don't have a lot to do. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum-please move if need be. Thanks for the help!
Some suggest you tip based on the number of people in the room - in your case 2 people - x $1 or $2. Based on that, your regular $5 per day should be sufficient even in your upgraded room. You can always add a bit extra if they do something special - but then maybe they'll do something special based on the $5 you left the day before?
We always print up Mousekeeping envelopes and 'award' cards that we hand out during the day to any employee we come across that we feel is doing their job well.
It is amazing how much appreciation the ones who clean the restrooms show for just a simple card. I had an older lady (she was Jamacian) break down and cry when I thanked her for the effort she put into her work and the smile on her face. The cards have different Disney characters and sayings on them - I think hers was Donald holding a gold award saying "You deserve an award" and below that "Special THANKS from (our family name and the date of our stay).
We have given them to wait people, resort staff, park security, bus drivers, housekeeping, tour guides, even character handlers to give to the 'inside' person later. At
Disneyland I handed one to the Mad Hatter (a face character) and asked him to give it to the Queen of Hearts (not a face character so she can't talk). What I didn't know was that she was coming up right behind us and made a really funny skit between the two of them - snatching the card away and giving him all sorts of grief. I love these 2 characters anyway so this was a sterling moment for me.
Didn't mean to drift off subject, but it is nice that you asked about appreciation, which can be shown in many ways. Since most of us pinch our pennies to splurge on a WDW trip, it's nice to know we don't have to spend a lot to express our thanks. And it is good to know there are others who like to reward those who look after our needs while on vacation. Enjoy your stay!
