Tipping on the Dining Plan - Cash or Card?

We have free dining so I have an envelope for each meal with the cash tip inside to take to our ADRs so I don't have to charge it to my credit card.

I used this system last year and loved it. I labeled each envelope and just grabbed it each morning and stuck it in my bag, then I could take out what I wanted to leave and keep the dollar or two remaining for something else.

We do cash. I am not charging tips back to the room as I don't want any issues at checkout.

We only do cash now. Had an incident at coral reef where left cash and the waiter wrote in a tip that got charged to the room with my alcoholic drink from dinner. There was a long thread a few weeks ago with many people sharing similar experiences at some Disney restaurants where tip amounts were changed. It can happen anywhere. I think the ones who do it at Disney just think it's easier to get away with it because how many people actually line by line check their room charges.

Now we write CASH in the tip line so that nothing can be added.
That's sneaky. We always charged it back to room.:confused3 Might reconsider that now.

We just got back about a week ago. We originally had envelopes set aside with the tips for each of our table service meals. Our first night we ate at 1900 Park Fare and forgot to take the envelope with us. We were a little tired after an 18-20 hour drive. It was great to be able to charge straight to the Magic Bands since we didn't have anything on us. We decided for the whole week that we would just use our magic bands and pay our bill the night before we left. We did not have any problems with our bill.

15-20% is typical, depending on the level of service received. If you have 6 or more in your party, Disney will automatically add an 18% gratuity to your bill.
So if there are 2 parties (one of 5+infant and one of 4) will they charge the 18% gratuity? And if so, how is this done if we are on the DDP? I usually leave cash tip but if we will be charged I want to be prepared for this. TIA

If the 2 parties sit together then everyone will be charged the 18% gratuity, if not, then only the party of 6 will be charged the 18%. If you want to pay the gratuity in cash let the server know and you will be given a bill with the amount of the tip on it.

thanks for the reply!
I'm sure we will sit together. Since we are in two rooms and on two DDPlans, we will have to scan two magic bands for the meal. So will we have two tickets? I'm just trying to plan how we will know how to tip since the amount will be larger for one party. I'm a generous tipper and don't mind the 18% being added but just want to make sure my friends are having to cover tips for my family. If we do charge to the room, will they charge tips to both rooms since two sets of bands are scanned?

Each room will have their own bill and the grat will be according to what each room ordered. You can pay the grat however you want : room charge, credit card, cash, gift card or rewards card.

Once you are seated, let the server know who is with who and that you are using the DP. The server will scan one hand from each room. At the end of the meal you will be given a bill that will have all the meal prices and the amount of grat owed. Simply let the server know how you would like to pay. Your transaction is done when you sign on the signature line.

You can use a card, and if you're staying on property, you can just charge it to your room. That's what I usually do. Have fun!
