Sorry for all the questions but was just wondering if you do this or not and if so how?
DH suggested we just leave cash in the room with a note but I'm not so sure?? I don't even know if we get the same mousekeeper every day.
It's just our luck a new girl will come in on the day we leave & bag the tip

You don't have to tip Mousekeeping as it's not a tipped position but for those that do the usual is to leave a little something everyday (or on cleaning days if you are DVC), say a couple of bucks marked in some obvious way so they know it's for them.

If you leave it every day then you know the person who did the cleaning will get the cash, because as you say, the person cleaning your room out on the last day may not be the person who's done it everyday up until then.

I usually just take the back of a receipt that I'm not worried about keeping and scribble a little message on it (and draw some mickey ears, well you have to don't you? ;) ) but a lot of people do proper envelopes.

Just do what works for you.

Yes we do leave mousekeeping a tip every day. We normally print of a load of 'Thank you for cleaning our room' slips and leave one with the tip on the table. We normally leave at least $3 per day (only two of us).We had been leaving $1 per person since 1994 so figured it was time for a tad more. Never leave it until the end of the holiday because as you say this could be the day that somebody new bags the money.
There are others that will not leave a tip as the WDW mousekeepers earn the best wage going for this kind of job and its not expected, but I always think its nice to show appreciation.:)

Argghh, I feel super bad now as we haven't been leaving tips :( I didn't think until now and we leave tomorrow!

Nevermind I guess we can do it today and tomorrow....better late than never.

DisFanJen, love the idea of doing a cute little note with mouse ears :)

April, we also tip every day, but if you have forgotten or wish you had and feel it's too late, you could perhaps take the cash to reception in and envlope with a note and explain to a CM there that you want the tips to be divided among the mousekeeping staff who cleaned your room over the dates of your stay. Leave a note of your room number and check in/out dates on there as well so that they can match it up to the rota. You normally will have the same mousekeeper for the most of your stay but they do have a rota and sometimes irregular shift patterns. I know that last year the lady who cleaned our room the first few days had an 8 day break during our stay and was back doing our room again for the last part of the stay.

As it has been mentioned, it's not a 'tipped position' but will be much appreciated so don't feel bad about it.

Hope you enjoy the next exciting part of your holiday :yay:

Thank you!! :goodvibes

That's a really good idea actually! I've just made a nice arrangement with all DS's cuddly disney toys we've aquired over the hol and wrote a note out to leave a tip but yours may be a better idea :)

we leave tips everyday since mousekeeper can change from day to day

we use the standard calculation : $1 + $1 per guest, so that's $4 for the 3 of us

I wouldn't feel too bad in your position, since there is no obligation to tip mousekeeping, and since you didn't intend to not tip.

Leaving an envelop at the front desk (or in the room) might, or might not be a good idea. The whole idea of splitting up the tip might cause more trouble than it would do good, even though that would be mousekeeping's business by then.

I would probably settle this by not tipping and sending a guest appreciation card instead

Thank you, that's a good idea too.
Will do one or the other either way.

Can you get special guest appreciation cards?

I don't know what they have at your front desk (can't recall where you are staying) but we have done this in the parks. You basically fill out a little form with details on and a message and it is passed on to the CM. Not sure how that works for Mousekeeping. We all have different opinions on this but if you want to tip, I don't see not tipping as an easy way to solve it.

I think the gesture will mean a lot, however small

We buy a pack of nice envelopes before we go, print out some homemade stickers for them and leave a tip everyday with a bar of some sort of Cadbury chocolate.

I use the hotel room notepad to write "thank you" and then leave $1 per person per day. If we forget, we don't worry about it.

There is a place on the net that has cute designs for envelopes you can print yourself.

Do a search for The Mouse for Less Mousekeeping Envelopes and you'll find a good link with cute pics!

I think I found it through DISboards.

Yes...I have done this for next time...:thumbsup2

Thanks for that!

We've learnt so much from mistakes on this hol being our first time and all, so all this goes toward making our next one a whole lot more organised :thumbsup2

I make 'mistakes' on every trip and we've been quite a few times. They're really called "experiences" ;) And they just help you plan some little things differently the next time. :wizard:

I was reading earlier on the US bit of this forum (before I found the UK bit) that H(M)ousekeeping is not a tippable position & that they are not supposed to take the cash and infact most of them hand in to their boss & thosse that don't if get caught could be fired, done by the tax man.....
I was planning on tipping daily as I always do when staying in a hotel for more than a night, but I don't want the money going to Disney (they'll be getting enough off of us) so is there anyway to check this out?

Actually I may call Disney tmx & ask!

Housekeeping tips are personal - it isn't a tipped position so they are not getting taxed on expected tips however I do believe all tips have to be declared.

When we used to stay hotels I used to tip however since staying DVC I no longer tip - partly as I never remember when they are coming :rotfl:

Even when we stayed on a cash booking in Feb at OKW I decided not to tip as the housekeeper wasn't great - she got tipped the first day but not the rest however this unfortunatly meant the one great housekeeper we had in the middle for one day didn't get tipped either.

Hadn't seen this thread before, it's definitely interesting to read everyone's differing opinions on tipping housekeeping.

No matter where we are in the US we always leave $2 a day tip (2 adults). I usually leave it on the bed as figure they'll know it's for them as they'll be making the bed.

When at RPR for a week, we were nearing the end of the holiday and instead of notes we had alot of change to get rid of so were leaving the $2 in change. The woman who cleaned our room was so appreciative of the fact it was coins as she told us she could use it for her bus fare home :thumbsup2

Interesting. We tip $2 a day in any US hotel that we stay in but this had made me think twice. :confused3
