Just a rather silly question regarding tipping Mousekeeping....

Will they only accept the tip if it's in an envelope clearly stating it's for housekeeping??

No it doesn't need to be in a special envelope. I just wrote thank you on a piece of paper and left it next to the money, and they took it.

I would usually leave $1 -$ 2 per person in the envelope. I have however read on another UK forum that people also leave cadburys choc. Apparently crunchies are high on the list!

Crunchies? Never thought about that. I always take scottish shortbread, fridge magnets, keyrings etc. That's a good idea.

I usually also buy some British/Scottish tourist postcards and leave a thank you on there, placing the money on top. Never used an envelope. I leave a little more since it is just DD and I - but then there are always a few days when we really don't need the place cleaned or anything and I use the Do not Disturb sign. Then the next day I just add a couple of dollars to that day's tip as there will possibly be more to do.

Great idea leaving postcards and other little gifts from home!

I love the idea of leaving little gifts.

I have always put our tip on the bed with no note/envelope & they always take it. :thumbsup2

Little gifts and cards are also nice to have on you for that extra friendly bus driver who cheerfully interacts with tired guests at 3 am ..... so nice to be able to drop something in his hand on the way off the bus. :)

Do you leave the chocolate/gifts etc instead of the money or as well as the money ???

We always fill a cup up with the shrapnel that we have left over the holiday, we counted it last time and it was about $20 so it added up quite quickly.

We had a lady called Rosa at Port Orleans FQ and she was fantastic! She really looked after us and she even wanted to take me home to meet her family......Ive never ran so quickly!

It does add up quickly! I used plenty for pressed pennies, yet by check out day the resort gift shop kindly changed the somewhat heavy bag of change .... $35!!! It's those darn nickels and dimes!

:lmao:

It's better to leave it every day, as there is no guarantee that the same person will clean your room throughout your entire stay. It may even be a different person each day.

Or it may be the same person each day, and then someone else on the last day when you actually leave the tip, which would be really unfair.
