My mom recently told me that the Mousekeeping staff got a huge raise last year after reopening and as such are no longer a tipped position. Is this true? Thanks!

Mousekeepers now start at $15/hour. That raise came about as a result of a new union contract that took effect in 2019 or 2020 (can’t remember now which year our DVC dues took a big jump to pay for it!). Per terms of that contract (and the one before), Mousekeeping is not considered a tipped position (restaurant servers are considered a tipped position, so their hourly pay is lower on the assumption that tips will bring their compensation up to a reasonable amount). However, nothing forbids you from tipping your Mousekeeper if you wish, and your Mousekeeper is allowed to accept tips.

They were out of work for 25% of the prior year, some much longer dependin on their hotel’s closure and now have to do deep cleanings between guests I still tipped.
Same. We tipped more per person, per day during our November trip (because the Mousekeeping was amazing) than we did during this trip (Mousekeeping was ehh this trip) but we still tipped. We tipped $20/day this trip because we had 6 people. In November, we tipped $20/day for 4 people.

I can't see leaving tips for someone collecting an office sized trash receptacle?

Our kids usually take 4-6 stuffed animals with us every trip, one time at Port Orleans Riverside they setup this big stuffed animal party, that got a huge tip. We used to leave money every time when we went to the park. It's hard to see this when nothing is being done to the room right now.

I think on Oct 4, 2020 mousekeeping wage was increased to $16 from $15. Back around 2018 when the changes were scheduled, most WDW workers were making less than $10 or $11/hr and iirc some were only in the $8 range. I’m happy WDW responded to the push back about low employee wages.
