Hi,

I have a quick question... we just bought into DVC, and will be taking our first trip in July. Here is my question. We usually tip Mousekeeping $4/day when we stay at a Resort.

Since you only get Trash/Towel on Day 4, and a full cleaning on Day 7, how much do you usually tip for each service?

Thanks for your help!

This topic has gotten several varied responses when posted in the past. I tip exactly as MickeyCrazed does. I feel for the size of the rooms and the service that is provided, it is well worth it.

What size accomadations does the $5 and $10 dollars apply to. This is interesting because I was just printing out my mousekeeping envelopes for my stay next month at AKL. But this will hopefully be our last stay in a non-dvc resort. I have BCV booked for September and I was just thinking this same thing. We are a family of 4 and I normally tip $5 a day at a regular resort so the $5 for T and T and the $10 for a full cleaning sounds good for the 1 bedroom we will be staying in, but I was just curious which accomadations the posters here were referring to, studio, 1 or 2 bdrm.

hi Terry: that's what i usually tip for a 1br stay. when we had a 2br, i did $10 for T &T day and $25 at the end of the week. sometimes "mousekeeping" doesn't even take the money on T and T day.

Thanks for the opinions... keep 'em coming :)

We tipped the $5 and $10 amounts in a 1 bdr. We have only had a 2 bdr once but tipped $10 on trash and towel day and $15 on cleaning day.

Hmm....what's the housekeeping schedule for a stay of less than 7 days? (We'll be in a studio at the BCV for 5 nights) For some reason, I'd assumed the rooms would get a daily cleaning, but it seems I'm wrong!

If you are staying on a cash reservation, you get daily maid service.

If you are staying on DVC points, you will get Trash & Towel service on your 4th day. That would be the only service unless you paid for extra.

This topic has generated some interesting responses in the past and on the RADP boards...according to some-Disney lists tipped and nontipped positions and does not consider housekeeping a tipped position (unlike waiter, bellstaff, valets, etc- where tipping is encouraged.) In fact, some claim that any tips are to be turned into the supervisor for whatever use seen fit- (division party/charity donation, etc) this may or may not be true...clearly tipping CM's at the parks, etc is definitely not allowed, and according to some CM's stories they are occasionally tested on this (someone pretends to be a guest and tries to tip them- if they accept- they are in trouble...)

Finally- since our dues include payments for the housekeeping services there is the additional argument against tipping that you are paying twice for the service. I am sure there will be those who argue that housekeepers are underpaid and deserve a tip for their hardwork, but I don't know what their hourly wage is- certainly it must be higher than a waiter, etc where the wage is paid assuming they will be tipped.

That leaves you back where you started with one additional notion- tip whatever you feel comfortable tipping- and that may include nothing.

I feel that I might have been a bit cheap in the past and didn't even realize it. We usually tip $5 on Trash and Towel day and $10 on a full cleaning but we are usually staying in a 2-bedroom. I was planning $10 on Trash and Towel day for the Grand Villa we are staying at in May. We've always tipped housekeeping when staying at a resort or hotel no matter where we are. I feel that houskeeping usually deserves it. Plus they have a tendecy to leave you extras when you do. Last time we came back to the room to find enough coffee and tolietries to last well beyond the stay. We even received 2 extra boxes of laudry soap.

We were down in February stayed from Friday to Thursday so only received T&T on Monday.
I didnt leave any tip because T&T only consisted of taking the trash and leaving the clean towels/face cloths stacked on the ottoman in the living room. I didnt see much need for tipping this time.
I am not complaining about them not putting the towels away but yet I did not feel it rated a "tip" either.

e had a great trip and cant wait to go again.
PS We did have many "welcome homes" and we did truly feel at home.

The only time I ever tipped room service was when someone went that "extra mile". I am far from cheap so let me explain. Every day before leaving the room, there is no food on the floor, I tie the garbage bags and place them in the bathroom with all the towels and recycle bottles "rinsed out" and the beds are made by us. Thats how we are in general - clean and neat. All our trips so far were "Cash" reservations - and at $250-$350 a night I think getting clean towels and extra garbage bags are included in that price for what we dont leave them "workwize" As I said, One stay at the Poly we had a employee who made "animals" with our facecloths and some towels - we never seen this person and felt "she" deserved a little something for the smiles that were brought to our childrens faces. I made sure I caught her the day before leaving while she was cleaning the room ( to make sure I had the right person ) and thanked her also tipping her for her special "addition" during our stay.

As far as DVC goes, We do not get daily room service and our "points/cash reservations" reflect that lesser service. So I only see myself doing the same cleaning I have done at any full paying resort. I would think somewhere outta my $1200.00 Annual maint fee - some portion of this covers my possible 2-4 cleanings a year. So once again, I tip people who go that "extra mile" and thank them generously for it - not because I think I have to on top of what I paid for in the first place.

Also, I try to get peoples names and write letters of commendation for the happiness they brought me or my family.

IMHO
