Yes, it would be at least the same for toddlers...since mine was a bit messy at the table I tipped extrea for her mess!

Definately. We have traveled both with and without children, including 4 yo DGS. The children are as much or more work for the staff as the adults. It is per person. We too tend to give a little extra for the great service we have always received

I think a 4 year old should tip whatever he/she wants to.

The unfortunate thing is that the child would probably be more generous than the adult!!! :earseek:

Well, my 4 yo would happily give the server a million dollars (if we had it). Err, I don't think so!

To the original poster, we've cruise with our daughter at 3 and again at 4 and both times we felt the servers earned the full amount and tipped the recommended amount plus some. As always, I'd give the full amount only if you had excellent service. That is the bar that DCL sets and I expect the excellent service (but so far we have always had excellent service).

Have a fun trip,
Jennifer

I have a family of 5 so the tips work out to about $32 per day for the server/assistant server (can you imagine - $6 BUCKS per day for tableside service!)

That means if I were at a restaurant eating THREE MEALS, it would total $160 per day for meals for FIVE (and a 20% tip - 32.00). I've eaten for alot less on vacation than $200 per day BUT not like this...it's bagels and pizza and spaghetti & butter!

I don't know about you but that's not alot of cash to take care of my wife and I and our three kids who want crayons and another chocolate milk and to clean up the extra chocolate milk.....

Sometimes service just S$#Ks and you have to adjust accordingly but if they are good, they deserve the money. If they are excellent, more.

I don't think kids make it easier by any stretch!

On trips such as these, I usually end up doing something diffferent.

I usually take the waiter aside, and do one of two things: I either give them part of a generous tip right there (so they know there's more where that came from), or I just tell them that I tend to thank people VERY kindly at the end of a trip where my family is taken care of.

They get the message, we get treated like royalty, and we thank them in kind. We do this with the stateroom staff as well.

Now, perhaps I may be naive and I'm, in reality, thanking them for service they normally provide anyway, but I've seen little instances where it helps. And it's win-win for everyone anyway.
