In just a little over 2 weeks we will be on the Disney Dream . I think that we may want to do room service in the morning for coffee and perhaps pasteries.
Can you tip the server in cash? What amount would you tip?

We always tip room service in cash. We make sure to bring a lot of singles with us for this purpose. :) For breakfast for 2 people we'd usually tip around $3.00 - $5.00, depending on how much we ordered.

You can charge it to your room. A few bucks...2 to 5 depending what they bring.

If taking a med cruise would you tip in dollar or euro? the euro is significantly stronger if that makes a difference.

We take a stack of 1's and tip away. I keep them in a drawer so if the kids order and I'm not there they can still tip. My last cruise I traveled with 4 teen boys so there was a lot of food flowing. I had to give them a standard of tipping so I ended up saying for one person $2 and $3 for two people, $5 for three of you, $6 for all four of you. Usually the youngest was not among them. We were concierge and they put in a order so every morning at 6:30 we received a pot of coffee, creamer, a plate of chocolate danish, and 4 milks. We tipped $5. Not saying this is what you should or should not, just giving you an idea of what we chose to do.

I'd like to know this too.

me too, I was obsessively hoarding single dollar bills when I was at WDW last month, but on the last day the Virgin Check-in woman couldn't make change of a $50 and we lost half of them ... I have about $25 in single dollar bills now but as there are 6 of us in three cabins I figure we'll need more!

Yes. I bring a wad of Ones... just for the tipping. I usually give $3 for a breakfast run, $2 for a Mickey Bar or snack, $5 for a big meal.

We always tip in American Dollars, even on a Med cruise. They can figure it out. :thumbsup2

I have been saving a bunch of $1 bills as well as some $5 bills as there will be 4 adults and 1 child (2 rooms). I like having the $$ ready for curbside check in at the airports, baggage handlers at the port etc.
I just hated charging a few dollars here and there on the ship, I'd rather just tip in cash for room service.

I have never been on a Disney cruise before but I know on other cruise lines they tell the passangers NOT to tip the people who bring room service that it is built into their saleries. I guess Disney do not do this?

I guess I am a cheap tipper, but DH and I just give two dollars to whomever brings the tray of room service. They don't have to bring us drinks and we usually just order a plate per person. I think we are pretty easy. :)

Unless you order something with a dollar amount on it (bottled water, canned soda, boxed candy) there is no receipt, at least there wasn't last week on the Wonder, so no way to charge a tip to your room. I tip at least one dollar per item ordered, some tip more, some less. But I think the room service waiters get no more salary than the rest of the "tipped" CMs.

We make up small zip loc bags of candy (gum, chocolate bars, etc) and $2. Servers get a kick out of the candy! Since it's usually my DD ordering the room service, she has more fun giving them a baggie than she does just money.

This keeps changing....we've usually been asked to sign a receipt with a $0 charge on it "to show that you got the food." However, on some cruises, they have not done this.

If you need singles, you can get them at guest services.

As to Euros vs. Dollars, your choice. The official currency on the ship is USD, so that's never wrong.

We finally used room service on our Dream cruise -- had coffee and hot chocolate delivered every morning. I just put out the door hanger that was in the room with our order and it was always hot and on time. Room service was my wake up call :goodvibes. I tipped $2 every time. Hot chocolate wasn't on the menu though -- I wrote it in and it was no problem.

I too tip in cash and I put cash in the servers and state room host envelope as well and I hand the envelope directly to them on our last night:) I have a special envelope marked "tips" so if whoever orders room service they can pull out the envelope as well:)

I think I will tip in dollars instead of euro because a $1 bill weighs a heck of a lot less than a 1E coin.
