Tipping for MK cruises

Hi

I have booked a surprise trip on a MK Wishes Celebration Cruise for our wedding anniversary and have been wondering what tip I should give the boat driver - assuming it is up to the normal high Disney standards!

The cost is $319.50, so any advice on what I should be tipping would be really helpful.

We did an Illuminations cruise last year. I'll have to check with DH but I think we gave the captain $30.

I'm sure you'll have a great time, we loved our Illuminations one.

I'd say the tip should be the same as that for servers at restaurants (15% - 20%), but others might consider that excessive. As a very minimum, I'd say you should consider 10%, although, personally, I don't think that's enough.

Is it just the two of you? All the cruises we've done have been with other parties (US DISers). The person booking the cruise has invariably collected our share of the cruise plus a contribution towards the tip. A couple of times we felt the tip element was insufficient (something like $40 for a party of 10), so we've given the Captain an additional tip (as did some of the others). I suppose it could be argued that a bigger party size could be expected to equate to a bigger tip, but, if it was just dh and me, I would feel obliged to make sure he wasn't short-changed. After all, he's providing the same level of service and it's not as though he's got the opportunity to make any more money that evening. It was the same when we did a VIP tour at Universal Studios. Dh and I ended up being the only ones on the tour that day, so in fact, we got a true VIP experience. We gave her a much bigger tip than we would have done if we'd been part of a big party.

I think we tipped 15 or 20%, my memory is a bit fuzzy! We did it with a couple of other families from another forum I post on and filled the boat so it didn't work out much extra per person. The guy seemed really surprised to get that much of a tip so I wonder if some people either don't tip much or not at all =/

When we went on it was suggested on the US forum that $50 was about right for the tip.
