Tipping for luggage at resort

If I leave my bags with BS while waiting for my room, I usually don't leave a tip because I take them from my car up to BS myself, I just drop them off. I do tip the person who brings them to my room. If I valet park my car, I tip the guy who drives off with my car (he's driving off with my car after all) and I tip the person who take my bags out of my car and I tip the person who brings my bags to my room. If I just take them to BS and pick them up from BS myself, I don't normally tip since I did the heavy lifting. I always tip the room service person, usually add it to the bill. I don't normally tip mousekeeping because I don't normally have my room serviced but once during the middle of my trip. I pick up after myself the rest of the time and hang up my towels.

I tipped the ME driver as we brought our bags. At Beach Club (every time) we take our own luggage to room, no one has ever offered! :) If I were to leave my luggage at Bell Services and I brought it to them on my own, I would not tip at that point. I would tip after someone retrieved them and brought them to me. And then the usual tips for housekeeping, dining, bars, etc...

This last trip was the first time I stored our carryon bags on our departure day since we had a late flight. We were at BLT, and the bellhop out front took care of it. Since an entirely different bellhop retrieved it I tipped both times.

I used to be that way, until I showed up at a Disney deluxe resort: Someone took the bags out of our vehicle, I tipped him. Then he handed me off to someone who brought me to the front desk, I tipped him. Then another person took us to our room, I tipped him. I think the baggage guys at the hotel try to maximize the tipping process by having multiple people involved in one transaction.

After that I decided I was going to tip the last person who touched my luggage.

If I do ME, I tip the driver when he removes my luggage from under the bus. Most people, it seems, do not do that. Our luggage is all wheeled so, after that, we take care of it ourselves. Saves me a lot of figuring. If I was in a wheelchair/walker and needed assistance I think I would still tip the ME guy and the last person who handled my luggage, which would be the person who takes me to the room. If I came via private vehicle and different people unloaded/escorted me to my room, I'd tip the last guy.

Now that delux hotel luggage handoff thing is ridiculous. I would definitely tip the last person in that case too! I only tip ME driver at drop off if he gets luggage out from under the bus. I do try to minimize how often I use assistance but there are many situations where a few $ tip is worth it to decrease hassles.

I also just tip when I pick up my bags. It never even crossed my mind to tip when I dropped them off.

I call it 'tipping too soon'. Another instance is when I had a (very expensive) car service pick my family up at the airport and drive us home. There was snow everywhere. When we got to the house, he took the luggage out of the car and asked for payment, so I tipped him at the same time. He then left us (with 2 babies and several pieces of luggage) in the parking lot of our condo complex and took off. No assistance to our front door (which was on the first floor).

Wow! What a jerk. I have no words for that!
