We are staying at AKL concierge in Aug for DD's b-day, if I called or e-mail the concierge staff will they decorate the room for her if I purchase some decorations? If they are able to do this do I tip them and how much should the tip be? Also if the staff does extra things while you are staying there do you tip them for everything or is that just part of the services of concierge? We've never stayed in a concierge room before and I'm not sure how it all works :confused3 .
Thanks :wave2:

bump.
we are also going to be staying in AKL Concierge in June and i would also like to know if we should tip Concierge staff.

Ive been curious about this, they have been so patient with them, instead of a tip i was thinking about bringing them a gift...any ideas?

When we stayed at the YC CL we had such an incredible host. He really went the extra mile, we did tip him. We gave it to him in a thank you note at the end of the trip.

Hello,
We are staying AKL Concierge for my dd's 10th in July. It is a surprise...I am going to wake her up the morning we leave for the airport and say we are going... :sunny:
I have requested a booking on the Sunrise Safari for her Birthday, but that is all so far.
I am not sure if the Concierge staff can accept cash tips. We have given chocolates and cookies as a thank you .
Have fun.

We've left cash for concierge staff, too. There was one CM that was so nice to us the whole time and was the only one we really worked with on our trip, so we left her a tip.

The folks that you work with in pre-planning are not usually the ones who assist you while on site, just an FYI.

For our December trip, I felt that the ladies in the IPO department for the YC went the extra mile for me. I sent down a chocolate gift basket and also a personalized gift for each person in the office. They all work as a team, even though you might have contact with only one "front line" person. If you do a search on concierge tips, you'll see a lot of differing posts. Some have reported that CM's have told them explicitly that accepting cash gifts is a big no no for them. If a guest is insistent, then the money is pooled in an office fund for the entire concierge team.

GoofyGreb, you are already paying for the higher level of service and it's not necessary to tip the staff for everything they do for you. I think decorating a room prior to your arrival probably qualifies as going that extra step though. I had sent down a small Christmas tree from home for our trip and also some presents that I had purchased and wrapped. The IPO staff had me send the package directly to them and they in turn added the park merchandise that they had purchased for me and had it all set up in our room. That's part of the reason why I said "thank you" in a more appropriate way. First, I would check with the staff to see if room decorating is allowed and coordinate sending down the box of decorations. As I mentioned, even though you'll probably only be dealing with one person, they do all work as a team. I think a basket of cookies or somethings that represent your home state would be very nice for the staff.
