Tipping Concierge Level

I will be experiencing Concierge Level at Wilderness Lodge in about two weeks. I am extremely excited because this is my first "samlpling" of service at this level. I have stayed at the Lodge numerous times , however none at Concierge Level. This is a "solo" trip , so I thought I would treat myself.

I did have some questions , however , about tipping at this level. Somebody informed me that gratuities were not expected at this level ---other than housekeeping and bell service---but I was not certain if that is correct or not. Furthermore, I heard that Disney actually does not suggest it. But again, this seems odd.

So, what IS the story ? Do I offer gratuities to helpful individuals who meet/greet me , assist me with my stay , attend the buffet , etc.

I want to handle the situation properly and not seem like a "klutz" if you know what I mean.

Also, if tipping IS appropriate , do I take care of this on a day-to-day basis , or wait until shortly before I depart ?

Also, any comments about Concierge Level service recently at the Lodge would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Disney concierge staff are not a tipped position and they are not allowed to accept gratuities. It is not necessary to tip the people who greet you or attend the buffet area, or help you during your stay. You are paying extra for this service and they are paid to meet your needs.

That said, for our 25th anniversary, we stayed at WL concierge and one of the staff (Randall) was incredibly helpful to us before and during our stay. In our conversations before we arrived, we found out he collected magnets from different cities, so we bought a couple of unique ones of Chicago and presented them as a "gift" and a thank you when he checked us in.

We've bought the staff chocolates and cookies from DTD as a "thank you." They have accepted these and enjoyed them, too.

If you want to recognize someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty, a letter to the resort manager and/or WDW is always a nice gesture.

Everything Eeyore 1954 said is absolutely true - except that they CAN accept gratuities - We stayed at the Poly and AKL concierge at Christmas and not only did we tip them cash for services that we felt were superb - but we noticed several other guests tipping them cash as well. We asked before we did, and were told by several CMs that they CAN accept cach gratuities - but that the money goes into a fund for them all to use for group parties - They can't keep the money personally - so if you wish to recognize one particular CM - then something small (like Eeyore1954's magnets) would be appropriate - or the letter to the Manager....

I don't mean tipping a couple dollars for someone who meets/greets you - or the people who attend the buffett -- but if they go above and beyond the call of duty - then by all means - show your appreciation with a gift or gratuity. We gave them an envelope w/gratuity at the end of our stay because we thought they did a fabulous job (often going to infinty and beyond for us).

They certainly don't expect tips or any other gifts - If you feel they deserve a little "something" then go ahead. If you do want to tip them cash - I would ask them before if they can accept gratuities - because apparently the rule changes - you will have alot of posters that say they can't----- But as of last Christmas, they could.......Jill

Our conceirge at the YC is one of the most outstanding customer-oriented individuals I have ever met. We sent her a $75 basket of goodies when we got home...yeah, she was that good.

We also sent her flowers before we arrived because she made us feel extra-special months before we traveled.

I tipped island planning prior to our arrival and the desk while there. Both were top notch
