We were just wondering if it is OK to tip CMs in the parks or resorts. There has been a number of times when a CM has helped us beyond our expectations, we really want to return the favor.

You can't tip a CM in cash but some people have made up cute little gifts to give to them to say thanks

The only CMs who can take tips are in the restaurants and at BBB/Pirate League I believe.

I've printed out "Thanks for making our day extra special" cards but then never given one away. Either something happens too quickly for me to think about or nothing extra specials happens. I think an email commending that person is probably most appreciated.

I tipped the face painters at AK. I am told they are to refuse 3 times and then can accept. It worked out exactly that way. :-)

Thanks everyone, very helpful:worship:
Any more tipping experiences would be welcome.

I know the BEST thing you can do for a CM is write down their name and location and go to GS to fill out a compliment card. This works WONDERS for their yearly reveiws and lets them know that someone went out of THEIR way to compliment them.

Also true for servers, btw.

Agreed!! :thumbsup2

I've heard that if they refuse three times and then accept a tip that the tips must be turned in to their manager. The CM does not keep it.

It is probably easier for me in some ways because I live in Scotland, but I always buy a whole lot of souvenirs to take with: the kind of stuff you get at the tourist places like tea towels, key chains, scottish shortbread and anything else that looks really lovely (IMO). I always have 2-3 things in my backpack and when someone does something outstanding, as often happens, they get a little gift.

Sometimes it is nice to have them to give to someone who has unjustly taken the brunt of another guest's rant. Like at our foodcourt last year the poor CM at the cash register was being yelled at by a guest in front of us and all because they were having a bad day and she was just .... there. It seemed appropriate once we had paid to slip something onto the counter and tell her that she is appreciated and deserves a magical day from this point on - then leave before she could say anything.

I am sure that everyone could find something from their state that is a bit different. Or a card even would be a nice touch.

I've not done this, but after a CM at our resort food court (I think it was POP) went out of her way to help me and my very young son (at the time), I asked to see a manager and let her know what an excellent CM they had.

On every trip my daughter gets a hair wrap at one of the carts. I always tip and it is always accepted.

The people at the hair wrap carts do not work for Disney. They work for a participant and have different rules than Disney.

What does the manager do with it?

Normally, it goes into a fund for the department. Eventually, when there is enough money, they will do something for the entire department.

Seems to me that the best way to thank a CM is to go to guest services with the CMs name and location. Just have to remember to go to GS before we leave.

I think that would probably be ver meaningful to the CM> :goodvibes

This is a great idea, I'm going to get some cards printed up to take with us and then take them to GS before we leave.

Disney's ace :tinker:

I also printed out thank you cards that said, " Thank You for the magic". I gave a few of them out in September. I also filled out comment cards with their names on it. Whatever I can do to keep the magic coming!!:thumbsup2
