I didnt put the Home Away from Home resorts in because if you stay in them using DVC points, you don't get daily cleaning. If you stay in them using dollars, then please vote with the deluxe, as that's their dollar category.

I took the time to find out whether Disney was one of the chains that has housekeeping as a tipped or a non-tipped position. It turns out that housekeeping at Disney is a non-tipped position, so I don't tip them.

Maybe they are suppose to say that they are non-tipped position. When I was working for Lenscrafters, we get paid hourly and plus commision. It's more like incentives. If you sell this this and this...you'll get this much. A few customers/patients have asked me and I told them that we don't work on commisions. I guess the company doesn't want the customers how our company works. NO the customers DO NOT TIP us, it's the company that pays us (it's incentives). My point is maybe Disney doesn't want us to feel obligated to tip them, but only tip when deserved.

I always tip the mouskeepers and will always tip them when deserved. So far I have not encountered where they don't do a good job. They always do an excellent job. I tip when staying at the value, moderate and deluxe resort.

No. It's is a legal designation, that Disney has to report to the IRS. It has to do with whether there is an expectation that the principle source of the employee's wages come from gratuities or not. I had the opportunity to confirm this online when we had an online chat (here on the DIS) with the general manager of the BoardWalk. It's pretty well-established.

Remember, though, just because housekeepers are paid a living wage and aren't expected to be tipped, you can give them extra if you wish.

There many CM that help make our trip magical that don't get tipped under any circumstances. The CM that assist in the portrayal of the various Disney characters for example never get tipped.

Housekeeping is in the middle. They are paid enough so that it is not a "tipped" position but they're allowed to accept tips. Tipping is truly voluntary. Certainly you should tip if you create an extra mess, ask for extra towels or otherwise have a housekeeper that, in your opinion, warrants a tip.

All you have to do is look at the resort "newspaper" you get when you checkin. Housekeeping is not listed as a position that tipping is expected.

-non-tipped means housekeepers are paid at least the minimum wage. It doesn't mean they're paid a living wage.

I don't tip housekeeping as a general matter, but if I make a special request (extra towels, etc.) or disrupt their usual schedule (e.g. asking them to come back later because I'm napping), then I do leave a small tip that day.

We save up LONG and HARD for our WDW trips, as do many people who go, but no matter where we stay (value or Deluxe) we ALWAYS TIP.

I tip at every hotel I stay at Disney and non-Disney and always have. I stayed at OKW on points and did tip the one day we had housekeeping

I chose moderates since we stay at all levels of resorts. We basically stay on points but extend most trips by staying in a different resort at the beginning, or even a quickie type trip, not on points. So, I always tip for housekeeping...maybe about $3-4 a day for 3 of us.

I have stayed in all of the catagories, and wouldn't DREAM of NOT tipping!

Actually, as non-tipped employees, they are technically required to turn all tips into management. There is very little enforcement, but those are the stated rules of that position.

True, but I believe some of Disney's tipped positions are paid over minimum wage. Disney housekeepers are specifically paid a living wage.

We stay value and usually tip. However, last time our mousekeeper was doing a very poor job (never vacuumed, didn't wipe down the table, forgot towels two days) so we just stopped tipping the last few days out of disgust. The service stayed the same. We've never had a problem before, guess we just got a bum mousekeeper that time. I will be tipping again for our next trip but will not hesitate to stop tipping again if service is poor. And this time I will be sure to let management know if the service is subpar, as I neglected to do so last time.

We are going soon and I plan on tipping mousekeeping but how much is reasonable. There are just two of us and we aren't slobs! We are staying at POFQ. :flower:

I am of the mind that if a person comes into a room in which I am staying and makes the bed, cleans the bathroom, and gives me fresh towels (things that I would have to do myself at home), I GLADLY tip. If the service is sub-standard, then I will NOT leave a tip. But since these people are working in a position that assists me personally (like a wait person or a cab driver), then I tip. Case closed for me.

I am also staying at POFQ, alone (a personal vacation for moi!). I am a nortoriously large tipper and I'm tipping my mousekeeper $5.00 per day.
Most people would shake their heads at me in sympathy, but a lot of the mousekeepers are either 1.) In college and could use the extra money. (I'm in college and can identify...... or 2.) Could use the money.

Most people suggest between $1.00 per day per person staying in the room....

I always tip housekeeping no matter where I am as well as the "tipped" positions. I don't know what housekeepers make at WDW, but I doubt it is all that much and I will gladly give them a few extra dollars for a nice clean room to come back to. Yes, I realize they would have it clean regardless, but I know with my family, their definately working for it. :)
