Tipping at Palo and Remy

Seems speculation on Palo servers income, and speculation on prior amounts of service fee going to servers, ( no longer the case). It would be helpful if posters show information of sources where they get thier information from.

Posts here have given the impression of authority or fact differ to my understanding. So it would be nice to find out where this " information " has actually come from.

A " search" here, on this subject, will give prior responses on this matter and also quote sources.

Because you recommend it, please inform us of your source for tipping information.

I have done a search on this particular topic on the threads. There is absolutely not a consensus. People have reported speaking to various cast members and gotten various answers about whether any portion of the service charge is a tip. These responses have come from guest services, management at Palo, and individual servers at Palo.

I do think Disney could be clearer on this matter.
On the Palo home page, tipping is not mentioned at all, just the upcharge:
http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/ships-activities/ships/dream/dining/palo/#reservations
You have to go the onboard services page for info on tipping:
https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/planning-center/my-cruise-plans/faqs/onboard-services/gratuities/

For all others positions, the policy is clear. And, for port adventures it states specifically that gratuity is not included.
If none of the upcharge goes to the Palo (or Remy) servers then Disney should state that.

I did.

My post said,

Search facility here,

Many people who " are" in the know have posted accurate information on this subject over the years here. Just search it here.

I did do the search you suggested. My response is directly above your post. Again, I would like to know your source for the information that no portion of the service charge is a tip. Other posters have reported a variety of answers when asking cast members.

I agree with you.

We have had one server about 10 times, we would consider her a friend, I'm telling you that they make MOST of their money from tips.....

You are 100% not CORRECT!
I am 100% correct. I have had it confirmed by management onboard the ships as well as onshore management.

If you believe someone who makes money on tips is telling you, I have a bridge to sell you in Arizona.

The staff consider it an honor to work in both places. They are well compensated through the tips included with the service chafe and the tips others choose to leave. We feel no obligation to add a tip ever.

Servers with experience will be the ones seen in Palo. In May 2016, I chatted with my Palo brunch server about the online discussions about tipping. He told me that the fee for brunch does not include a tip for the server. Having kids in the hospitality industry, I always tip according to what my meal is worth and my starting point is 20%. So when in doubt, take care of your server.

Even so, I would never want to be your server. We believe that our servers bring us a greater value than the upcharge in their service so we always tip above the upcharge at least at Palo. It's up to the individual but we think the servers deserve more than just the upcharge even if any of it goes to them which I highly doubt it does.

I think the other unanswered question is whether they are compensated by DCL better than those MDR teams. If they are paid similarly and are able to accept tips, then tipping is appropriate. If they have a substantial difference in wages than those who are on the tip roster, tipping becomes less necessary.

I'd say the very fact that DCL allows tipping at these restaurants, means you probably should tip something. Look at other cast members who are not allowed to take tips, like kids' clubs CMs. I would expect their base pay is much better than those in the tipped roles. Otherwise, why would you do it?

I'm gonna guess that the base wage in Palo (or Remy) is better than that of your rotational server. But I'm also going to guess that like most land based servers their tips are the bread and butter for their wages. I will pose the question on our cruise which is coming up soon and see what the answer is.

I get a bit flustered by all of this. We're Australians (tipping isn't part of our culture as we have much higher wages) so having information to assist us knowing who to tip and how much is greatly appreciated. I'd hope Disney would be a bit more transparent. In saying that, the last time we were at Palo on the Magic our server had quite a loud conversation with the table next door complaining that guests don't tip highly enough. We reduced our tip accordingly following that display.

our server for brunch was great and he ended up being our server for Palo Dinner later on that cruise and I don't believe it was a coincidence.
Its not a coincidence, its policy. Unless you had a problem with the server (or the other way around), they like to keep you together since it helps establish a relationship between them and the customer.

THEY DO NOT WORK IN NORMAL ROTAIONS. They DO NOT receive the tip you give to your normal staff. And you will see them working breakfast an on CC.
How can you justify you being CHEAP???
