I know that in the USA tipping is expected for meal service, room service, taxi service etc but that over here in Europe it is not as common. It got me thinking though do the employes at DLP expect to be tipped like the American employes do or not? I want to do things correctly when I visit there. When I have stayed in hotels in Paris itself before we have not tipped housekeeping (it never occured to me!) but as DLP is Disney should we tip there like we would in the USA?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Danauk,

when we visit DLP we always tip luggage porters, valet parking CM's, housekeeping and table service restaurant staff just like in WDW.

We also tip in table service restaurants & luggage porters. However, unlike at WDW, we don't leave a tip for 'Mousekeeping'.

Richard. :)

Hmmm. Before going to Europe, I was told that pretty much everyone would be expecting a tip. I guess I wasted a lot of money and surprised a few people, huh?

Actually, you don't have to tip at all!! Service and taxes are included in the prices and in the paychecks with CM's! It's the samething in Belgium. :smooth:

But ofcourse, a CM would appreciate it...

I realize this thread is over 3 years old, but my question was regarding proper tipping etiquitte in Paris and DLP. We will be visiting DLP and Paris for the first time in over a month and we were wondering about tipping.

Our Frommer's guide to Paris states that all restaurant prices include tax and tips and that it is NOT customary to leave an additional tip. It even went as far as to suggest that some servers in Paris may try and take advantage of American tourists stating that they will write by hand on the bills that tips are appreciated, even though it is already included in the price.

Is that accurate and does the tipping policy extend to CM's at DLP? I notice the last post on this thread stated that was the case, but I wanted to make sure before we got there. Thanks for any help!

Hiya,

tipping does not seem to be the norm in the parks or restaurants certainly- nor does it seem to be expected. I do not know about the hotel staff, but we have never tipped - not through meanness (I hope) but just that the opportunity never arose - the first time we stayed at DH and when the guy valet parked and another took our bags, there was no "pause" where you would expect to proffer a tip... (unlike over at WDW !)

We've always tipped 10 -15% in France as we would do at home, if the service deserved it. Otherwise we leave nothing :goodvibes

Hi!

In my expirience, it is usual to tip around 10% of the bill in table service restaurants. We always do so and we have often seen other guest doing the same.

But it is not common to leave a tip for the Housekeeping in your hotel room.

Greetings from Germany, Wuzefelix

we tip 10-20% for restaurants and give bell service 5 euros.

We always tip in restaurants if the service has been good, which it it usually is.

I never even thought about tipping Mousekeeping until I read a trippie a few months ago - seems like a really nice idea. What would people say is a reasonable daily tip for Mousekeeping?

We never tip, because it's included in the price.
I remember that ex-BF tipped the CM who brought our luggage up at HNY, but otherwise, we never do.

having just returned we never really had the opportunity to tip, ie:no waiter served restuarants, no parking etc but we did leave 10 euros for the people who come to clean your cabin on the day we left but we never had them in during our stay as we cleaned ourselves.

We tip table service restaurants around 10% rounded up or down, we've left more when the service has been particularly good.
I have always left tips for "mousekeeping" (in a marked envelope otherwise it doesn't get taken), with the exception of our last trip when the housekeeping was dreadful.

What would people say is a reasonable daily tip for Mousekeeping?

I leave a couple of euros every day in a Mousekeeping envelope. You can tell the chamberstaff are not used to being tipped as they often leave it.

What would people say is a reasonable daily tip for Mousekeeping?

We normally leave €2/3 each day, although in the case of DCR because you request it or when you leave we left the equivalient for the number of days :)
