Does anyone know how much servers make at the Disney restaurants?

I usually tip in the 15% range when in Canada. Disney recommends 18% at their restaurants.

I understand tipping is much higher in the States as most servers can earn very little. I was just wondering if Disney pays servers a minimum wage, benefits, etc. or they mostly rely on tips for their salary?

I expect that this thread will be closed very soon. Tipping is a taboo subject .

Oh I didn't know. I don't want to get into any debate, I just was curious as I was quite shocked to find out the min. wage was so low for server positions in the States. I just didn't know why tipping was so high, now I get that servers need to make up the difference. I was just wondering if the same was true for Disney.

As I don't want to cause any controversy I'm fine if this thread is closed by the moderator.

Having once worked in the service industry in Toronto, tips are what pay for the lack of benefits from the employers... Servers rely on tips and no, they don't make a minimum wage, hourly is a couple bucks less.

And no, Disney doesn't pay their servers all their bells and whistles either.

p.s. 18-20% is what's considered the norm in Toronto now.

I tip according to the service I get. I tip very well for good service, but if I'm not happy with the service I was given than my tip will show that, to me it doesn't matter how much a server gets paid hourly, but how they perform their job. I worked as a server to put myself through school and if you are good at your job a server can make a few hundred dollars a night in tips.

In Florida.. tipped staff earn a significantly lower minimum wage than non-tipped staff and tips are expected to make up the difference.

The current minimum wage in Florida is $7.67 ... however, the minimum wage for tipped staff is $4.65. Of course after a few years of service that crawls up in .25 cent increments but Disney does not pay the vast majority of service positions much more than the minimum prescribed by law.

I shudder to think about working forty hours a week and bringing home a paycheck that after deductions ... would be well under $160 ... (before tips)

Just a few years ago, I was very friendly with several Disney employees who after 12 and 13 years of service... were struggling to make ends meet on just $21,000-$25,000 a year... without medical benefits, or exceeding expensive plans.

Hope this helps. Personally, I tip based on service and at Disney I've generally found it to be quite excellent. But even for poor service, I'll often give the benefit of the doubt at still leave something... we all have 'off days'.

Since tipping threads on other boards of the DIS generally turn into debates. I'm going to close this one here. Hope I have answered your questions.
