tipping at buffet's

I made WELL above minimum wage, and did NOT reports tips to the IRS. "Servers" all make minimum+ and do NOT report tips. Waitstaff makes much less, and DOES report tips.

Not a good idea. All employers are REQUIRED to report a certain percentage of their sales as tip income to their employees. If you do not report your tips you may be nailed with "allocated tips" at the end of the year on your W-2 which you will then be responsible for paying income tax, your share of social security tax, AND the employers share of social security tax on. I had a 17 year old girl come into my office this year who wanted to file a return to "get back" the $37 dollars she paid in to the IRS. She ended up owing $600+ because she did not report ANY of her tips, so she had 8% of her sales added to her wages as allocated tips. If you are a waitress or have children who wait tables (my daughter does), admonish them to always report at least 8% of their sales as tips. My daughter reports 10% of her sales (she says it is easier to figure) whether she makes that much or not. She has never been "allocated" tips.
