Didn't want to offrail the other thread, but are you supposed to tip or not at buffet character meals? We have ressies for Goofy's Kitchen and Surf's Up, but that includes 18% tip and with offseason prices, the meals are cheaper. It is only 3 adults, 1 child and an infant, so not a huge party.

ETA: You can use the vouchers like money as long as your bill is over that amount, right?

surfs up includes tip? Id always been led to belive only goofys and the princess one was the more expincive on with 15-18% included in the ticket.

I'm not sure, we had the meal vouchers from Costco last time so I wasn't paying attention. This time I booked through GAT, so I was trying to find the best use of the vouchers I already have, kwim?

ohh getaway today ok i can answer

prem chr meals are Goffys and Princess those include tax and tip

the normal vouchers are cheaper and for plaza inn story tellers and surfs up all of witch dont include tip (and as said before on another on )

They are self serve

Yeah, I paid 33 adult/17 child for the regular, and 40/21 for the premium so that should include tips at 18% + tax, but since it is buffet, I was wondering the etiquette about tipping, kwim?

We usually tip 20-25% for table service but I was unsure about buffets and if you tip/don't tip since there isn't a waiter/waitress.

At a buffet like Goofy's, there is just as much work for the server as a sit down meal. Because of this, I do tip as if I were having a sit down meal, generally 18-20%. Goofy's, Surf's Up, Ariel's, and Storytellers build an automatic tip into the buffet. Same for the Mother's Day royal buffet, Thanksgiving Buffets, etc...

Minnie's doesn't build a tip in, so it is up to you. Last time, I believe I tipped 12% at the table. The servers don't refill drinks there, and simply remove plates. We had very little interaction with the busser.

Other places, like Hometown Buffet, it really depends on the service. If I am trying to make room on the table because the busser isn't keeping up, they may be lucky to get 10% if anything. But if the busser isn't keeping up because its packed, I will give him slack.

So, should you/do I tip at buffets? Yes. Lower end buffets, I start at 10% and go up or down from there.

Last year, we attended the Royal Buffet at the DLH for Mother's Day. It was $72 pre tax and tip, they automatically added $13 for tip, and $5 tax per person. (There were 9 of us, 6 adults, 3 kids.) So, you figure the servers should have averaged about $88 from our tip alone. But, with the children we have.... I added $30 at the table. They deserved it. Waiting tables, and keeping people happy is not an easy job. The servers did an awesome job.

If you are using the vouchers for character meals (premium and regular), the vouchers include tax and tip. You can use them at other TS places for the dollar amount so tax and tip would not be included in that instance or if you used a regular voucher for a premium character meal. If you use them at the given character meal, you will not have to pay anything additional with the voucher (unless you get some drinks at Ariel's Grotto).

Per the previous poster and quoting from the getawaytoday website: "Character Dining - Our discount tickets include tax and gratuity! Disney Character Dining is the best (and most delicious) way to spend time with your favorite Disney characters! Choose from any of the five unique Disney Character Dining locations throughout the Disneyland Resort, including the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort and inside the parks. Disney Regular Character Dining includes the following locations: Plaza Inn on Main Street, PCH Grill in Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel, and Storyteller's Cafe at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa for breakfast only. Disney Premium Character Dining is valid at Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel and Ariel's Grotto at Disney California Adventure Park. " I hope this helps. This is saving us when we go since we don't have the tax and tip to worry about. I think it's about $30 saved overall for 5 adults and 1 kid.

I just cracked up at this. I'm sure your servers greatly appreciate your generosity. And I bet that they didn't think your kids were that bad.

Thanks, that is what I was wondering. We don't go out to eat very often, so when we do, we like to make sure the staff is well tipped.

So the adult dinner price for GK at $33 already has tip built in? Or is it a base price of $33 and then tax + tip after that? Just trying to sort this all out!

Thanks!

The price quoted does not include tax and tip....that will be added on at time of purchase if you are not using a voucher.

They are my nephews. And most view them as "cute" (twin 5yo boys, and an 8yo) but they keep everyone around them hopping.....

(My "kids" are 27/26/24/22...)
