We ran into a situation where our flights were switched to another day, and we needed to retrieve our checked baggage at MCO. We had checked our bags at our Disney Resort, FW. When we went to the AirTran baggage service area we were told that they had not found our bags yet. We mentioned that they were checked at Disney. The service agent said, "Oh, that means they are in a different area". Surprisingly, they were found pretty quickly.
