We are going with the DDP. I wondered how much I should expect to tip for 8 TS meals? It is two adults and 1 child who falls asleep at dinner:)

I thought about $20 per TS meal. Also what options do I have to tip? Charge card, cash, disney dollars or room key? I hate to carry cash around but could I leave it as a deposit upon check in instead of a CC?

It is customary to tip between 15-20%. You can tip with cash or credit.

If I receive exceptional service, I'll leave 20%. :yay: If it's ok, then I usually leave 15-18%. :thumbsup2 If the service is awful :headache: (as it was a Chef Mickey's for dinner once), I leave nothing. Disney 1990 had a great idea. This is what I always do and it helps me budget tips for each day. I'll bring the cash that I need to tip when I'm on the DDP. It's not alot of cash to carry and I think it's easier for the server.

I think Florida sales tax is 6%.

Triple the sales tax, and that's a nice tip.

Standard tipping is 15%-20% on the total bill; the number of people (awake or asleep is irrelevant). I'd check out the menus and prices for budgeting purposes and maybe figure 18% on average--although 20% would be safer.

You can leave cash for your tips, you may tip in Disney Dollars, charge your tips on a credit card, or charge it back to the room if staying onsite.

Not all food items, like alcoholic beverages, are taxed. If you need a simple way to figure a tip, move the decimal point over to the left. For example, the bill is $10.00. Move the decimal point over one to the left and you have $1.00 (10%), double for 20% ($2.00), half it ($0.50) and add the half back to the original ($1.00) and you have 15% ($1.50). You get the idea.

It is 6.5% so 3 times the tax is a generous 19.5%. As others have said, the tip should be based on the quality of the service. Don't skimp at the buffets as the services have quite a bit to do.

So, can I charge the tip part back to my room? We weren't planning on carrying cash (except $5-10) each day. Would it be easier to go ahead & get cash for tips? Of course, the easiest thing would be for tipping to be added back onto the DDP! ;)

You can charge just about anything back to your room. Even the price of a postcard.

If the tip was added back into the dining plan, would you be "forced" to pay what Disney suggests? Even with bad service? I don't know - never had the dining plan but I know that's a big debate on parties of six or more.

When the tip was included in the price of the plan, you didn't have a say on what the tip was--they automatically got 18%, excellent or horrible service.

I don't know how I am going to tip but I think if we just bring a $20 for each table service meal it will be more than enough. It will be 2 adults and 1 child. $20 should cover a tip and if the service is bad we can ask for the person to break the $20 for us and leave what is appropriate.

I just hate to carry cash but it will be best. I am paying for the entire trip before we even leave and it is our first trip ever that is paid for before going. I want to stay away from the credit cards and even pay for all incidentals using cash, gift cards and Disney Dollars.

If you tip 18% and want to leave a $20 bill, your meal total will have to be $111. That's going to be one nice meal. And at 8 table service meals, you would have to spend $888 and take $160 for tips. Your food budget would be $1,048.

Your best bet is to take tens and fives and ones. Take $20 with you in a combination of those denominations and then make your decision on the tip after the meal. Leave the rest of the cash in your room in the hotel safe.

But I honestly don't think you are going to need $20 for every table service meal unless you are eating at all high end places.
