You will get a paper that list each persons name and the amount of the tip. You are able to tear off a portion of the paper and put it in the tip envelope. If you want to tip more you can go to Guest Services or just put a little extra cash in the envelope.

Most of the PP's have covered the tipping situations--cashless ship (you can apply cash/gift cards to your account if you don't want to use credit), not tipping every time you eat, etc. I just wanted to add more info about the 'automatic' gratuities that get added to your account at the end of your cruise:

$12/person/day gratuity breakdown:

• $4 Stateroom Host
• $4 Server
• $3 Assistant Server
• $1 Head Server

As others have said, that amount can be adjusted up/down at guest services--but that is a cruise industry standard tipping amount. You will receive tip slips and envelopes at the end of the cruise with the amounts each person will be getting. If you have a credit card listed on board, it'll be charged that way. If you want to add more money, you can add additional cash to the envelope for that person.

Pre-paid was how we did it and it was very easy - although somewhat confusing before hand as we'd never cruised before and it was all new to us. You get envelopes and slips before the last day of the cruise. It shows you how your pre-paid tips are broken down on a receipt for you to keep (looks like this)


and then you can put the slips in the envelope to hand personally to your servers. We added additional tips to ours because the staff was really fabulous - everyone truly from our stateroom hostess to all our servers. Especially our server originally from India who had the chef specially prepare some amazing curry dishes for us after a conversation we had with him about how we can't find good spicy Indian food where we live! LOL. They really were absolutely wonderful.

Oh and I wanted to add that we left an envelope daily for our stateroom hostess with a few extra dollars in it. We just left it on the end of the bed.
