Just thought I'd pass along a little tip (that most people do not seem to know) that helps make handling Splash Mountain (or any other "flume" ride) a little easier if you're a person who doesn't think you'd like the ride because you think the final drop (the big one) is too intense for you.

At the very top of the crest (before the big drop at the end), here's what you do....time it so that you take a deep beath and as the log starts to drop, you exhale in a controllable fashion all the way down the plunge.

That's it! For some reason, in this ride the act of exhaling makes the sensation of being terrified much less "terrifying". I successfully convinced my 65 year old mother to take SM and she said mny advice worked like a charm, she handled it beautifully and enjoyed the ride.

Interested to hear others take on this....and if it's the first time you've heard of it!

Enjoy the rest of T-Giving Wknd!

We exhale but not in a controlled fashion, more like an open mouthed AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Good advice!

I was sooooo scared during the whole ride, then when we went down, it happened so fast, it was over before I even had a chance to be scared.

I told myself to count to ten while going down and it would be over and I would live through it, but it was over before I got to 3!

Just to clarify, when I say "controllably exhale", I mean it's like blowing out your birthday candles but at half-intensity.

Try it the next time your on SM!

Yep, it worked for me. It's kinda like that Lamaze breathing we learned in childbirth class. I use it especially at the dentist's office!!!

I am a big ride chicken who did Splash Mountain for the first time last year. I screamed my head off on the big plunge.

What was even more frightening was how bad my hair looked for the rest of the day after getting soaked!

The drop will not bother me. Now, how about some tips for not getting wet on a cold day in December?

The cheap plastic ponchos work fine for staying dry on Splash. I get them at the dollar store or Walmart, sometimes 2 to a pack. They're good on Kali River Rapids at AK also.

I'm not into traditional rollercoasters, but because they are not on tall frames, I love BTM and SM. The drop kept me off SM one year, but my desire to see the inside finally made me try it.

The anxiety over when the drop would come was far worse than the drop itself. It’s over so quick! Weeee Heeeeeeeeeeee!

Now SM is one of our all time favorites!

In addition to the poncho,I noticed the potential to get wet on the big drop is much higher if you sit in the front. Quite a bit of water sloshed onto me at the bottom of the big drop when we were in the front seat.
