What is the typical tip per bag for curbside check in these days?

Since curbside is available to save us time and effort, but is an extra step in getting the bags to the proper destination, I usually look to tip up to $2 per bag. Those folks seem to rely on tips and I like to think my bags are being cared for!

I do $5/bag for curbside, same as I do for bell services at the resorts or for the cruise line porters assisting with our luggage. Back in the dark ages when I was young and still in school, I worked a couple of different part time jobs where tips were a significant portion of my compensation, since my base pay was $1/hour. Now, I try to be generous with people in service jobs that depend on tips.

IMHO, I have never understood the appeal/need for curbside check-in, especially with the airline counters literally being on the other side of the wall inside a comfortable air conditioned building, I suppose it's just a personal preference..

For me, curbside is just a back up plan in case lines at the counter are very long. If I do need to use it, I just want to be sure to leave a fair tip for the employee. I haven't used it in forever, hence my initial question.

As long as the line isn't super long for curbside, I prefer it. Especially now that check in at the airline counters is basically self serve. Go the kiosk, punch in your info, put your own luggage tags on , etc. Curbside is also just a little less schlepping our luggage around. Like you said, just preference.

To answer OP's question, I tip $2-3 per bag. I do the same for bell services.

I doubt you will find there is a 'typical' tip amount. Depends on the person on how generous they want to be.

I also rarely use curbside drop-off. While I don't put things of value in my luggage, it seems that curbside is usually so hectic, it would be easier for someone trying to steal luggage to grab it when the employee is busy helping others. If you take your luggage inside and hand it to an employee who immediately puts it through the scanners, seems like less can go wrong.

Depending on how a particular airline operates, curbside could be a faster way to drop-off your luggage and avoid the indoor lines. If flying with an airline for the first time, good to review their website for what procedures they have relating to luggage handling.

Does anyone KNOW how much the baggage handlers (the ones curb side) actually make?
I don't worry about what they make. If I use curbside, I want to make sure my luggage goes to the same destination as me and in basically the same condition as when I dropped it off! And $2 per bag is about standard, if I only have one bag, I give $5. Normally when I travel with family, it's 3-4 bags we check, so $10.

Totally fine and I agree. It's the comments about them "relying on tips" as a reason to tip I'm questioning. Do they RELY on tips (like a waiter/waitress)? Or does it supplement their salary (and there's nothing wrong with that). I did a google search and saw they're making $17+/hour. I'm not saying they don't deserve tips because of this, but I'm not sure they're relying on them either.

We usually tip $10 for 2 bags. I prefer curbside checkin too. They usually put priority tags on our bags so they come off the plane first.
